System Restore Error 0x80070005

I have Windows 7 64bit
I've been having sound problems today, no sound at all. Have already deleted/reinstalled all sound drivers but still no luck. Before I come to the conclusion that my sound card has died I would really like to do a system restore to see if that fixes it.
 
But when I try to do a system restore I get the error code 0x80070005 with a full message. I have included a screenshot of the error message. 
 
 
Iv'e looked all over for a solution.
I have disabled my antivirus then ran system restore.
I have uninstalled antivirus.
I have ran system restore in safe mode while anti virus is uninstalled.
But none of that has worked, if anyone has any other ideas that you'd like to share. I'd very much appreciate it!

1.  Please download MiniToolBox  , save it to your desktop and run it.
 
Checkmark the following checkboxes:
  List last 10 Event Viewer log
  List Installed Programs
  List Users, Partitions and Memory size.
 
Click Go and paste the content into your next post.
 
2.  Please download and install Speccy to provide us with information about your computer.  Clicking on this link will automatically initiate the download.  
 
When Speccy opens you will see a screen similar to the one below.

Click on File which is outlined in red in the screen above, and then click on Publish Snapshot.
 
The following screen will appear, click on Yes.

The following screen will appear, click on Copy to Clipboard.

I see no indication of a SR problem which seems to be a 1-time event.
 
I would run the chkdsk /r command and follow that up with the sfc /scannow command...and I would install/update some system security.

The first link you sent me takes me to the main forum page.

 

I did the chkdsk and sfc scans, sfc said it found corrupted files but that it couldn't repair all of them.

I attached the logfile for the sfc if you want to see it. Maybe you can make more sense of it? I sure can't lol.

Try below tool to repair System Restore tool.
 
Tweaking.com - Windows Repair is a tool designed help fix a large majority of known Windows problems including; registry errors, file permissions, issues with Internet Explorer, Windows Updates, Windows Firewall and more. Download Tweaking.com - Windows Repair Tool and run the Tweaking.com - Windows Repair Tool from Safe Mode With Networking and  from Repairs tab click Open Repairs button. From opened Repairs window place check mark for  Reset Registry Permissions, Reset Service Permissions, Register System Files, Repair WMI,  Remove Policies Set By Infections,  Repair MSI (Windows Installer), Restore Important Windows Services, Set Windows Services To Default Startup, Restore UAC (User Account Control) Settings,  Repair Performance Counters, Repair Volume Shadow Copy Service, Repair MDAC & MS Jet and Reset File Permissions check boxes and click Start Repair button.
 
 
Open Control Panel --> Sound and set the Speakers (C-Media PCI Audio Device) as default playback device.
 
 


The WMI Repository "%windir%System32\Wbem\Repository" is the database that stores meta-information and definitions for WMI classes; in some cases the repository also stores static class data as well. If the Repository becomes corrupted, then the WMI service will not be able to function correctly.
 
Open Command Prompt as a administrator by typing Cmd.exe into Start Menu search box, right click Cmd.exe and select "Run as administrator" from context menu.
 
Within Command Prompt type below command and press Enter key:
 
 

Winmgmt /verifyrepository

Above command performs a consistency check on the WMI repository. If above command outputs WMI repository is consistent then you don't need to follow below steps.
 

If repository is found to be inconsistent then execute below command.

Winmgmt /salvagerepository

Above command  performs a consistency check on the WMI repository, and if an inconsistency is detected, rebuilds the repository.

Note This command will take the content of the inconsistent repository and merge it into the rebuilt repository if it is readable.

Anyways, here's the fix:

 

SFCFix Fix

This fix is very specific for Unknown450's computer. Trying this fix on your own computer might damage your computer. If you are after assistance, create a new thread, and you will be assisted shortly.

 

Download SFCFix (by niemiro) and move the executable on your Desktop.

Download SFCFix.zip and move the archive to your Desktop

Note: Make sure that the file is named SFCFix.zip, do not rename it.

Save any work you have open, and close every programs

Drag the SFCFix.zip file over the SFCFix.exe executable and release it

SFCFix will launch, let it complete

Once done, a file will appear on your Desktop, called SFCFix.txt

Open the file, then copy and paste its content in your next reply

 
Now, to run SFC to see if the files are repaired
 

SFC Scan
1. Right-click on the Start w8start.png button and select Command Prompt (Admin)
2. When command prompt opens, Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Right-click > Paste) the following command into it, then press Enter
sfc /scannow
3. Once it finishes, copy and paste the following into the command-prompt window and press Enter.
copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
4. Once this has completed please go to your Desktop and you will find CBS.txt => Right-click on this file and choose Send To...Compressed (zipped folder). Please upload this zipped file CBS.zip to this thread

Restart your computer and test if the audio works now

@CKing123 Thank you! You are a life saver! Your solution fixed my audio problem, I was starting to think my sound card really died but once again I have sound! I am including sfc and cbs stuff just incase you still wanted to take a look but audio seems great.

 

@FreeBooter that didn't fix the system restore problem, I'm thinking windows 7 repair might be the only way. But since my main reason for wanting to restore was cause of my audio problem. I don't feel the heavy need atm to do so.

Go to accessories right click on the command prompt, a box will pop up click to allow.  This will bring you to a black screen, where you see a blinking cursor type sfc /scannow mind the space after the c then hit enter.  This will run for a few minute while checking the file system, when done read the last few lines the exit.
