abt 80% of the webpages i go to give me this message, and the rest load fine.

i reset my xps420 to factory settings to rid the many viruses it had, and now im trying to get it back on its feet.

ive gone through all the erecovery disks i have for it and searched for them on my computer and it looks like all of them arestill there after the reset, so the drives are in tact and ive checked them for updates. i fixed the LAN settings so that shouldnt be the problem.. i dont know what else to try. i considered checking if google chrome would work but i cant download it since im still on windows vista.also considered upgrading windows but i think i only have the option to get windows 10? and it doesnt seem to want to let me do that.

any help would be reeally appreciated!

Hello dmlkay. The browser I would recommend for Vista is Firefox, which can be installed immediately after a factory restore - it doesn't even require SP1.

Vista shipped with Internet Explorer 7. Is that what you are trying to use? Probably not many websites support it anymore; I know the Microsoft website does not support it. The only version that Microsoft still supports on Vista is Internet Explorer 9, which requires SP2 and certain other prerequisite updates. Some websites don't properly support IE 9 anymore, notably Google websites. BTW you will almost certainly encounter great difficulty checking for Windows updates after SP2 has been installed; see http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/611898/windows-vista-update-hangs-at-checking-for-updates/?p=4019715
