Hey there. I came back from a vacation today to find an unusual error on my computer. It talked about how my copy of windows had expired or something, that it would restart every two hours, and that eventually I wouldn't be able to boot windows any more. It would mean a lot to me if I could get some help with this.

I believe this is because of Authentication. I can't remember how I got my Windows 10 copy, but I think it's illegitimate. I did however purchase a genuine copy of Windows 10 today (it's a Windows 10 Home OEM copy).

Either way, I can't authenticate because I apparently can't reach the Windows activation servers. Here's a screenshot:

I really appreciate the help.

Hello :) Could you please do the following on the machine you are having issues with?
Please download MiniToolBox, save it to your desktop and run it.
Checkmark the following checkboxes:
  • Flush DNS
  • Report IE Proxy Settings
  • List content of Hosts
  • List IP configuration
  • List Winsock Entries
  • List last 10 Event Viewer log
  • List Installed Programs
Click Go and post the result (Result.txt). A copy of Result.txt will be saved in the same directory the tool is run.

It was a bug in Insider Preview builds

If you have the Fast Ring, updating to build 14385 or later will fix the issue

You should no longer see a notification pop-up once a day saying that your Windows evaluation copy expires on 7/15/2016. I know this has caused a lot of you some angst so thank you for being patient.

@Cking good catch. I did not notice that this was a preview build.

So I've decided to reset my PC as it's just really screwed up. However, when I tried to I got a message saying that resetting my PC has failed. No error messages or anything. Mind you I'm trying to reset it using the option that keeps my files.

@Cking, thanks for the help. Would definitely switch builds, but my PC has just gotten slow and obnoxious.

Insider's Preview builds are supposed to be buggy! They are beta builds.

Reset will not work :(

Opt out of Insider builds: https://support.microsoft.com/en-ca/help/10584/windows-10-stop-receiving-insider-builds

I am not sure if it will revert to TH2 1511 build or not, because I never opted into Insiders Build so I can't say but that should be the first thing to do now. If you want to stay in Insider's Build, opt to Slow ring, the builds there are more stable

If you should be on the Home edition, then something is not right

Anyways the settings for Preview Build can be accessed by Group Policy in Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Data Collection and Preview Builds > Toggle user control over Insider builds. Change it and then opt out

Still isn't working... should I restart? As far as the Home Edition thing goes, I mean I bought a new Home Edition copy today because I'm stupid. Just currently have Pro.
