Brian, I've found many of this author's articles to be incomplete, in fact far more than his fair share.

Many times, this will be corrected by those in the Comments section, if there's one, and others are interested. :)

After Nick's post, I seen that this article is over 3 years old, and a 32 bit package has to be added (shown in comments).

Do you really want this old of a software on Mint 18?

I was having a lousy day anyway.....that just capped it off !

This player worked beautifully in Linux 17.3....it ticked all the boxes.

I have a solution...more scotch.

Yeah sadly both Songbird and Nightingale are dead projects because the Developers abandoned Linux some time ago and Linux users were passed. Personally I switched over to Clementine ages ago and have never looked back at any other music player

Brian, I have references to at that date as recently as 16th June.

I'll get my chores done, then hop into 18 (Cinnamon, wasn't it?) and see what I can find.

Later

Bit early in the day, laddie, watch the diabetes.

Better still, wait 8 hours then pour me one and I'll be on your doorstep :hysterical:

I got it "installed" last night....but as soon as I closed it...it disappeared...in so much as I would type nightingale into the menu...and nothing appeared other than the downloaded file on my desktop

The scotch finally won out....I put Clementine in, and have been fiddling and fussing over it since.....it will do the job

oh...and at the expense of a bit more of BC's real estate....the scotch is poured

Clementine installed! :thumbup2:

Now I have an alternate to VLC, which recently took away one of my favorites, the channel that plays all types of music listed in categories (prefer Rock). Disappeared like a thief in the night. :(

I have found with clementine that it plays from "playlists"....so I have to "load" the rhs...playlist side...from the lhs..library side....with whatever I want to listen to. To me thats a bit like hard work, so I selected my entire library and dumped the lot in the playlist side.

Then set up a few shortcuts......and soon found out that if i touch those particular keys while i am typing...the action takes place in clementine....and I am left wondering what the hell happened to my musac !

Anyway...I will figure it out...eventually !

The reason I liked Nightingale...it was simple and it worked...out of the box.

Here's a short video of me playing a video from within Nightingale.

I've done this from within the environment of Ubuntu Xenial Xerus 16.04 Beta which I will be blowing away shortly as I have installed the Stable.

I can swing over to LM 18.06 Sarah Cinnamon & double check that it works there, but I just have to nick off for a few minutes.

Just confirm for me that it was Cinnamon, I have LM Mate too.
