recently added two lines to "hosts" in an effort to defeat ads in Spotify (securepubads.g.doubleclick.net, and pubads.g.doubleclick.net).

That worked just fine, but now when I try to connect to certain websites on Google, it will not connect.  Is there a fix for this, or will I be forced to delete those two entries from "hosts" and tolerate ads on Spotify?

Hello swrightlast and :welcome: to Bleeping Computer

Editing the hosts file just to block ads is not a good idea. Instead, I suggest you to use adblockers instead. That said, if you are trying to circumvent Spotify's ads in music, that is against the Terms and Conditions of Spotify to do so. Instead, I suggest that you upgrade to a paid plan in Spotify so that you won't get any ads.
