It depends on how they were deleted.
Simple deletion, check the recycle bin.
Deleted and recycle bin emptied, try what the others have posted above.
Windows reinstalled, you need to take the drive out of the PC, connect it to another PC that works as a second drive, and use GetDataBack. It's not free; but, is about the best there is: https://www.runtime.org/

As others have stated it really depends on how the file was deleted. What DavisMcCarn said is correct on the first few parts. That's same as I would do it. I haven't used GetDataBack but will give that a try in the future (thanks for the recommendation).

I've used TestDisk. It can run on Windows, Linux, and OSX. It is a commandline based recovery tool and has a pretty steep learning curve but has helped me recover data numerous times when other programs couldn't.

Really just need more information from you as to how it happened to give a more direct answer.

Vince, I have also used TestDisk; but, tend to do it for missing partitions rather than lost files. BTW, the number of data recoveries I have performed is well over 15,000.

Hey Davis,

Impressive. Maybe I should clarify by your response. I wasn't discounting what you had said. You gave good advice. I was just touching on another program :)

On the program you suggested though. Do you suggest trying the classic or the simple?
