Are you wanting to block specific phone numbers from being able to text you? Or are you wanting to disable all texting completely? Does your carrier have an sms blocking feature?

Maybe your phone does not have enough of features to block text messages.  There is "Messenger", from Google, which has options to block messages from whatever numbers you choose.  I could not say how well it works.  It is a replacement or addition to whatever your text messaging application is.   https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.messaging

Never actually used that app but there is one on F-Droid:

https://f-droid.org/repository/browse/?fdfilter=sms+block&fdid=ru.subprogram.paranoidsmsblocker

Blocks messages from senders not in your contact list, filtering spam.

Features include:

  • Block SMS based on black and white lists
  • See blocked SMS in 'Logs' (blocked sms tab)

Paranoid SMS blocker dosnt work on Android 4.4+ due to changes made to 4.4 API's

I use TrueMessenger. Fits my needs.

I also use TrueCaller as my phone app because it does the same with calls. The only downside is it will ring the phone once before it blocks it. There's probably no way around that. Even that is only a slight problem since my phone initially starts with near zero volume and builds up from there. So I never hear it on that device. But I do hear it on my house phone. I bluetooth my cellphone to that when I'm home. It doesn't have any way to silence that first ring or I'd never hear a call being rejected.
