Ok, so in the control panel, the microphone has green bars lighting up whenever I speak into it. But when I go into "Sound Recorder" and try to record a message, Windows Media Player will play this message back to me completely silent.

Even with the sound recorder, I can still see the green bar filling up partially when I talk. So I know the mic is working.

My current build:

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P
Processor: AMD FX-8350
RAM: 12GB (2x2GB+8GB)
Video Card: Geforce GTX 1050ti

OS: Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate

Try using a better piece of software.

Wavosaur is a great free option. It's tiny, easy to use, no junkware and will even allow you to edit your recording too.
