I have a Windows 7 64 bit computer. It has some sata 3 ports. I have a sata 3 hard drive enclosure. Can I use the sata 3 enclosure with a sata 2 hard drive.as a back up? If so can the enclosure be connected to the sata 3 port?

According to this article Sata 3 is backwards compatible.

I am afraid I have Sata and USB confused. The enclosure and the port on the computer are USB3. The hard drive is Sata 2.

If I am understanding you correctly the enclosure is usb 3 same with the port on your pc, and the HDD is sata 2.  Yes it will work.  As sata 3 is backwards compatible.

Thank you for the information. One of the reasons I was asking was recently I plugged the mouse cable into the USB3 port and it wouldn't work.

Did it load the driver?  Did you go into device manager and see if there is anything with a yellow ! on it?

It looks like I may have drivers missing. How can I safely install the correct drivers?
