Dear HijackThis Team,

below is my log, including the startup processes. I would appreciate if you could point out what the spyware/adware/virus are, and i will delete them. If you could also point out the non-essential startup EXE, or atleast de-cript them for me.

I have already made my own mistakes using HijackThis, but the backup was successful . . . I await your expert opinions.

Thanks and much gratitude

Nick

I want you to fix some of those entries. Please do the following:

Please make sure that you can view all hidden files. Instructions on how to do this can be found here:

How to see hidden files in Windows

Please put a checkmark in the box for each of these entries, close all other windows, and click the fix button:

Just have one thing I would like to fix. Please download the file attached to this post and save it to your desktop. Double click on it and when it asks if you would like to continue say yes. Then post a new log.

Grinler, Thanks a million!!!

I added the file you uploaded for me, thanks again. My log is below.

I hope i havent gotten anymore malware . . . . you'll let me know.

Also, if you could, i would appreciate if you could tell me where to get info on eliminating some of the useless startup processes like ituneshelper, and other silly startup programs.

I thank you once again . . .

Nik

Woah..something snuck back in here.

Please fix these entries:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {D714A94F-123A-45CC-8F03-040BCAF82AD6} - C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\SbCIe028.dll

Then please follow this tutorials to download and install some great programs that will help protect your computer:

SPYWAREBLASTER - Using SpywareBlaster to protect your web browser.

Then post a new hijackthis log. When this is all cleaned up I will help you get rid of some of the extraneous startup programs

Fix this entry and you are done:

O9 - Extra button: Low Rate Companion (HKLM)

One thing I notice is that you have 3 antivirus softwares installed on your computer. AVG, Avast, and Mcafee. This can seriously slow down your computer. You should pick one that you would like to continue to use and then uninstall the other 2. Pick the one you want, and please uninstall the other 2 and then post a new log.

The anti-viruses are seriously slowing down my computer, however i would prefer if you recommeneded one for me. I am indifferent and would prefer following your expert advice. Feel free to recommend one i dont have.

I will wait for your suggestion and then unistall and fix the last file.

Once again, thanks a bunch!!!

I would go with AVG. A lot of people use it and really like it.

You chose to go with Mcafee or avg? I think you decided on AVG, but see remnants of McAfee. Just want to make sure before i have you clean anything else.

I totally disinstalled avast.
i tried uninstalling Mcafee, but im not sure i got all of it. In any case i want to use AVG, so dont worry about messing up Mcafee.

Thanks
Nick

So be it  Lets clean your computer then

Remember we are not deleting any of these programs, just making it so they do not run on startup. If you think you may want to reenable these, you should probably use msconfig (start, run, msconfig, press ok) as you can disable and enable the different entries as you see fit by clicking on the startup tab and unchecking or checking the entries. Checked entries are ones that will run on startup, unchecked are ones that will not.

Fix these:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [VirusScan Online] c:\program files\mcafee.com\vso\mcvsshld.exe /disabled
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ashMaiSv] C:\PROGRA~1\ALWILS~1\Avast4\ashmaisv.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MCUpdateExe] C:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\agent\McUpdate.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [DVDSentry] C:\WINDOWS\System32\DSentry.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MCAgentExe] c:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\agent\mcagent.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AdaptecDirectCD] "C:\Program Files\Roxio\Easy CD Creator 5\DirectCD\DirectCD.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [VSOCheckTask] "c:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\vso\mcmnhdlr.exe" /checktask
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [BJCFD] C:\Program Files\BroadJump\Client Foundation\CFD.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [iTunesHelper] C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [DwlClient] C:\Program Files\Common Files\Dell\EUSW\Support.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [msnmsgr] "C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\msnmsgr.exe" /background
O4 - Global Startup: Acrobat Assistant.lnk = C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 6.0\Distillr\acrotray.exe
O4 - Global Startup: QuickBooks Update Agent.lnk = C:\Program Files\Common Files\Intuit\QuickBooks\QBUpdate\qbupdate.exe

You need to decide on these:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AdaptecDirectCD] "C:\Program Files\Roxio\Easy CD Creator 5\DirectCD\DirectCD.exe"
Remove this unless you use this feature a lot

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AgenteADSL_15] C:\Program Files\Telefonica\KitAIM\AimExDll.exe AimGestA.dll 1
Any idea what this is

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [AIM] C:\Program Files\AIM\aim.exe -cnetwait.odl
DO you want AOl Instant messenger to start automatically?[b]

O4 - Global Startup: Adobe Gamma Loader.lnk = C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Calibration\Adobe Gamma Loader.exe
[b]Is this important to you? Are you a graphic professional? If not remove this

When your done post a new log.

I followed your instructions, and the computer is blazing fast again. The only question is upon restart i was prompted with MSCONFIG window that came directly after a system message asking me whether i want to always have it upon start-up, i clicked on NO. Hope thats ok.

thanks a million
NIK
