Hi, so I've been having issues. I use a Chrome Browser complete with AdBlocker. I used to get redirected to tech scam pop ups when I downloaded some stuff for games via ad.fly. (I hate people who use this now.) I found a website with a workaround that has enabled me to safely download stuff again by giving me the direct link that bypasses the adfly continue button that leads to redirect, etc. Oddly enough, I just recently downloaded a file from mediafire and now I get redirected once more to a tech scam support ad with no choice to close the tab. (Normally, the other tab will open and the download will go through; now it just makes a stupid ad pop up.) I close it with ctrl+alt+delete with task manager, continued browsing the internet, etc.

I ran malwarebytes and adwcleaner; both picked up nothing. I'm just worried if it's just my computer that keeps getting hit with these ads or if they're just everywhere now. I mean how they got past my adblocker even with javascript disabled, along with flash is just unsettling. :/

Is that Adblocker Plus? Or is it AdBlock...?

ou can restore your browser settings in Chrome at any time. You might need to do this if apps or extensions you installed changed your settings without your knowledge. Your saved bookmarks and passwords won't be cleared or changed.

  1. Open Chrome.
  2. In the top right, click the icon you see: Menu  or More
  3. Click Settings.
  4. At the bottom, click Show advanced settings.
  5. Under the section "Reset settings,” click Reset settings.
  6. In the box that appears, click Reset.

Use CCleaner to remove Temporary files, program caches, cookies, logs, etc. Use the Default settings. No need to use the

Registry Cleaning Tool...risky. Pay close attention while installing and UNcheck offers of toolbars....especially Google.

After install, open CCleaner and run by clicking on the Run Cleaner button in the bottom right corner.

CCleaner - PC Optimization and Cleaning - Free Download

  • download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
  • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
  • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista, 7, or 8; instead of double-clicking, right-mouse click JRT.exe and select "Run as Administrator".
  • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
  • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
  • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
  • Post the contents of JRT.txt into your next message
  • Hold down Control and click on this link to open ESET OnlineScan in a new window.
  • Click the esetonlinebtn.png button.
  • For alternate browsers only: (Microsoft Internet Explorer users can skip these steps)
  • Click on esetsmartinstaller_enu.exe to download the ESET Smart Installer. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the esetsmartinstaller_enu.png icon on your desktop.
  • Check "YES, I accept the Terms of Use."
  • Click the Start button.
  • Accept any security warnings from your browser.
  • Under scan settings, check "Scan Archives" and "Remove found threats"
  • ESET will then download updates for itself, install itself, and begin scanning your computer. Please be patient as this can take some time.
  • When the scan completes, click List Threats
  • Click Export, and save the file to your desktop using a unique name, such as ESETScan. Include the contents of this report in your next reply.
  • Click the Back button.
  • Click the Finish button.
  • NOTE:Sometimes if ESET finds no infections it will not create a log.

Could you possibly include a screenshot of the programs you have installed?

I honestly could but nothing's out of place. Just everything I had installed that's supposed to be on my computer. There's no extensions installed, no programs or anything else that's unusual. Also, I don't trust CCleaner. I understand you guys trying to help and all but it's a program I wouldn't mess with. Also, I use Adblock Plus, btw. I am also running the ESET online scanner so I'll attach a file of the results when it's done.

I just wonder if it's just me that keeps getting redirected and why. I ask other people on forums that I download stuff from and they claim they haven't gotten anything like that so to speak.

Then Unfortunately there is nothing more i can do, I hope you get the Issue resolved and Ccleaner isn't the best. I avoid it, but it works sometimes.

all i can offer then it to run, updated versions of these:

Rkill

ADWCLeaner

JRT

MalwareBytes Anti-Malware

may even try TDSSKiller or MBAR

and remove suspicious Extensions from your browser.

Good Luck!

CCleaner is safe to use. No problem at all. Change no settings....use the default settings.

After you had posted the results of the scans Eset and JRT I was going to ask you to do this:

Post the three lists mentioned below using CCleaner.

Open CCleaner and click on Tools. Choose Startups. On that page you will see a list of Windows Startups and at the top tabs for each browser and Scheduled Tasks.

At the bottom right of that page you will see a button when clicked will allow you to Copy and Paste the list of Windows Startups and Scheduled Tasks into your next

post. Please do that.

Open CCleaner and click on Tools. Choose Uninstall. On that page you will see a list of programs installed on your computer and at the bottom right of that page you

will see a button when clicked will allow you to Copy and Paste that list in your next post. Please do that.

Block more ads using Adblock Plus.

Click on its ABP icon and choose Filter Preferences. UNcheck the box next to Allow some non-intrusive advertisements.

Had no idea this was an option too. Thanks. Reason I don't want to really use CCleaner is because I, myself, have done registry editing before with it and for whatever reason I've had to take in my computer twice into a tech shop to get it fixed. (Search results weren't working along with other wonky stuff. Nothing too bad but just annoying things that weren't there before regarding my OS.) Also, ESET is taking while. I'll bookmark this and leave my logs here when I'm done doing all of the above. I still won't use CCleaner but I've given the other programs a try before.

Again, sorry. I know you guys are trying to help and I'm grateful but it's a program I won't use but I don't mind ESET or JRT.

I specifically said in my instructions for using CCleaner......No need to use the Registry Cleaning Tool...risky. Did you read that?

I did and I still refuse to do so. I'm being quite civil about this. No need to make it seem as if I can't read or seem stupid. If Malwarebytes, Hitman Pro and Adwcleaner didn't pick up anything, and let's say if ESET or JRT (hypothetically since the scans aren't done) doesn't pick up anything then I don't have to go that far. All I'm doing is just double checking if my computer is fine or not when these hit and run pop ups come up. It's not every single time I download something because I've clearly worked around the tech support ads via adfly but this is the first I've downloaded something off of mediafire and a tab opens itself up to a tech support scam pop up.

What I'm wondering if this is normal if it happens occasionally. The ad itself doesn't affect my computer or install anything onto it. I've had my fair share of viruses and computer wipes to know about this. My browser's been reset and I've already implemented my settings/extensions back into it. All I'm doing is just getting a second opinion on the matter. That is all. There is no need to be condescending. I'll still post the lists but that doesn't mean I entirely agree with what CCleaner does since it really doesn't do anything.

All I can really say is a lot of those things are all the normal programs. Nothing out of the ordinary. There might be some stuff on the list that may look weird via name because, if the list wasn't quite evident, I play games a lot on my computer. So there's also those included like the pre-requisites and what not.

I gave instructions for posting THREE lists. Please post the other two using CCleaner and previous instructions.

I don't use Dropbox. You can find Eset scan log and post it using the instructions below. Or possibly not as I don't see

Eset Online Scan as an installed program. If you can't find it then find another way to post the screenshot of what Eset found and removed.

The ESET Online Scanner saves a log file after running, which can be examined or sent in to ESET for further analysis. To view the log file, Show hidden files and folders must be enabled. New logs are appended to the existing log files when multiple scans are run.

The path to the log file is the following: C:\users\%userprofile%\appdata\local\temp\log.txt
