Hello Helpful people, so I am out of ideas, and seek the enlightment of the masters. somehow I have got some crap that I can't get rid of. first off a description of whats going on:

1. when I start the machine, and log on it starts at least 5 sometimes as many as 9 "iexplore.exe"s that are hidden from my sight, the only way I can see them is in the windows task manager (ALT+CTRL+DEL).

2. whatever I have is also effected my norton antivirus, the security alerter tells me that the anti-virus is off, when I open it it says their is a error with the e-mail scanning and that the auto protect is off and dose nothing when I try to turn it on. ( norton antivirus 2004)

3. none of my messengers will work except MSN. the ones I have are as follows: "AIM Triton" and "Yahoo messenger with voice" I cannot get the versions, becaus I can't start them, they do not appear on start-up anymore, and if I try to open them after start-up, they appear in the windows task manager but never actually "show up" then eventually dissapear from windows task manager.

4. for no reason what so ever the CPU Usage in the windows task manager will shoot up to 100% and stay there for anywere from 30 secs to 1 min.

5. alot of my default programs needed to make some parts of my laptop will not load anymore, suck as a program that allows me to scroll with the touchpad, and other such (really un needed, but I like them) programs.

ok now for what I have do to try to resolve this myself, I have ad aware SE, Spybot S&D, Webroot spy sweeper, Trend Micro Anti-Spyware, windows defender (beta) and of corse Norton 2004, they all have up to date definitions. they found a few things, mostly tracking cookies, nothing from norton. I also used the default windows tools, like disk clean-up and cleaned out my history, temp files, temp internet files and cookies. I ran all these programs in safe and normal modes, and in both my loging, and the admin loging in safe mode. and I ran the vundofix program, it came up with nothing too.

here is my Hyjackthis log:

Hi and welcome to Bleeping Computer! My name is Sam and I will be helping you. :thumbsup:

Your log actually looks pretty good. So we're going to dig a little deeper to see if we can find out what's causing your problems.

Please download ComboFix and save it to your desktop.
Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When it's done running it will produce a log for you. Please post that log in your next reply.

Important Note - Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.
Posted Image If I have helped you in any way, please consider a donation to help me continue the fight against malware.

Failing to respond back to the person that is giving up their own time to help you not only is insensitive and disrespectful, but it guarantees that you will never receive help from me again. Please thank your helpers and there will always be help here when you need it!

That log is clean as well. Let's check for the existence of a rootkit.

Download and save backlight to your desktop. Doubleclick blbeta.exe, accept the agreement, leave [X]scan through Windows Explorer checked, click scan > next.

You'll see a list of all the items it found. There will also be a log on your desktop with the name fsbl.xxxxxxx.log (where xxxxxxx represents numbers). The application finds both bad files and legitimate ones such as "wbemtest.exe", so don't choose the rename option yet! Copy and paste the log it generated in your next reply.

No, you did everything correctly. The log shows that there is not a rootkit present.
I don't find any signs of malware on your computer.

The only issue that you described that would seem to indicate malware is the multiple IE processes. Do you still experience that issue?

Well after the last log, I tried Panda software's online scan and it found a few trojan horses, I don't remember what ones they were, but panda was able to kill them, the IE problem seems to be gone now, but my maching is still running really slow, I am going to run all my anti viruses and spyware scanners again. and see what happens. any other ideas would be greatly apprecated though.

Are you sure that Panda removed them?
Because Panda often will identify malware, but not remove it.

Panda said that they removed them, and when I scanned again, it didn't find anything. But everything is still running slow, and messing with Norton. I am open to any ideas at this point.

thanks

Norton has plenty of problems on it's own without malware being the cause. Have you tried reinstalling it?

Please post a new hijackthis log and we'll figure out what's slowing you down.

Here are some known resource hogs and other unnecessary programs that run automatically at startup that you can fix with Hijackthis to stop them from running automatically. This will free up resources and help your computer run faster.

Just a note about Windows Defender. It's a good program, but not nearly as good as Spysweeper. There's no reason to run both of them in the background. I'd keep Spysweeper running on startup, but not Defender.

Run Hijackthis again, click scan, and Put a checkmark next to each of the lines listed below. Then close all other windows--you should only see HijackThis on your Desktop--and click the Fix Checked button.

ok I removed the keys you said to delete, it is running a little faster, but still slower that is was, quite a bit slower, the main thing I notice is when I open IE of Outlook Express, there is about a 20 to 45 sec delay untill I see the window, and when you close IE, it dose th eold school "whiping down" thing. you know that thing where then you close something, it delays for a few seconds, the slowly the window dissapears from top to bottom, revealing my desktop image, then once the IE window is god all my desktop icons re-apear. the other thing it is doing is sometime, when in IE, it will Un select the IE I am using, and not allow me to do anything with the window till it re-selects it. ( the bar at the top of the screen turns from blue, to grey, then back to blue, wile the bar is grey, is when I can't do anything with the window) another thing I noticed was when it is doing the inselected thing, their is some HD activity, as in I can hear it working, and the tell-tail light flickers.

well anyways, here is the new log:

How much memory(RAM) do you have?

Let's run some basic maintenance.

Go to My Computer and right click on Local Disk(C:).
Select Properties -> Tools.
Under Error Checking click on Check Now...
Check both boxes and click Start.
Click Yes at the prompt and reboot your computer.

Once scandisc completes, go right back to the same place and click Defragment Now...

=============

Download the trial version of Registry Tuneup from here.
http://www.acelogix.com/regtune.html

You may have to run it a few times between reboots, but it should clean up a few things.

=============

Then download NTregopt to optimize and compact all that extra space.
http://www.snapfiles.com/get/ntregopt.html

Let me know how it goes.

I did everything you said, and it made a diffrence, but it is still a little slower than it was. and some programs are still not working, I think that they are probally like my messengers and were damaged by whatever I had. so I will just re-install some programs.

as for the RAM I don't remember, I know it isn't too high, "My computer" properties says I have 496MB so I guess it would techincally be 512MB. I know I know, I can't except rocketreformance out of it, But I could swear tht it was faster before I started having problems.

Here is a new Hijack this Log, wasn't sure if you'd need it again or not.

I still have both windows defender and Spy Sweeper running, I need to kill defender still.

Just wondering, I would like to upgrade my ram, the last time I looked, I had another slot for memory, but I have been out of the Computer building game since 2001, and am not sure what online retailers are good and witch are not anymore. anso I am not 100% sure what type of RAM I need. My computer is a Toshiba Satellite A45 S1202, I am using a Intel Celeron 2.4GHz. chip, I don't remember the other specs of my machine.

Thanks,
Mike "Delamaize"
