Mod Edit:  Split from http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/469585/windows-7-bsod-on-boot/ - Hamluis.

I am facing the simmilar problem. Window Error code are generic and do not pin point the real problem. You should be able to find the solution by analyzing this dependencies graph

1. What kind of mass storge are using

like iDE, USB, SATA ETC  Each one of them have different structure to create DISKS, Parttions, and Volumes.

Be care full many knowlege bases do not distinguish disks and volumes (disk are physical (/dev/harddisk01) wkere volume (A:) are logical)

Boot Block is the fundament Unit to invoke OS and mostly depend upon the BIOS (Bios only sees the disk controller)

So BOOT sequence is a dependency between BIOS, and active Disk partition on the disk  (mostly boot partition are OEM specific or generic)

Check locations of your OS partition and data partitions (partitions, partition label, and volume ) ONLY Partition LABEL  are true Identifier of the storage

BSOD will occur when this dependency is not correct

Window repair tool can be used correct this dependency (You might have to run repair 3 times depending upon mass storage type)

You can also use vendor specific tools to create boot partition (in windows 7 BCDEDIT, BCDBOOT, bootrec , bootsect are used to create bootmgr, osloader, and resume  applications)

Osloader can be specialized for vendor specific OS invocation type such as debug, dsrepair, or safeboot types)

2. What kind of File System are using

There are numerous Type of File system are in use and OS file system  manages and use limited number of formats (like raw, fat32, NTFS ETC)

Do not format partition which you  where your  data is residing. You Can shrink the Size of the partition  to recover the storage so that you create a new partition to install windows (remmember disk and partition identifiers)

USE DISKPART utility to manage DISK, PARTITION, and VOLUME

DISk - Deals with BIOS support (GPT, BASIC, MBR, EFT)

if you want to create GPT, EFT etc you will start with a raw disk with out partition disk create with clear option

CARE FULL  using CLEAR option (It will destroy all partition on disk without a warning)

Partition - deals with   Type,  ID, size, file format (FS,label, blocksize)

Good practice keep user space sepate from OS (different partitions) use volume mount to  mount users into windows mount point

Allows to manage efficient Backup and System recovery

What is the state of your System:

             System without Backup

If you fail -  Recover it for safe boot or Directory Repair

Use vendor supplied tools to identify hardware problems to

System Board,  System Components, Bios Setting etc.

You will only loose the Data if Disk Controller are failed (if you have Raid - you have multiple choices to recover depending upon raid configuration)

Many companies offers data recovery services from the failed disks.

If  have function disk controller you can use OS to recover.

                                        Failure Hierachies

                                            Mass Storage Partition - Volume

                                            Driver Failures  Pnp, Legacy

System, Software, Sam, Security, Components, Default Hive

                                            Window Management Instrumentation

                                            Access Control and previlliage Control

OS and Applications Comptability (NET FRAME WORK, DLL, MOF - used as a system driver to manage windows functions like configuration, performance   ( Registry,  TASKS,  EVENTS, WMI )

Use external OS system to mount Mass sorage (Might need addtion hardware drivers to access mass storage )

Use Mannual or embedded toots to boot at Safe command or Directory Repair Level

Run Repair  tool to identify the problem

                                           1) Correction of the boot (continously boot 3 time in repair mode)

                                            2) Partition Recovery (at volume level Run CHKDSK /B Volume Name for OS  - a though check to validate and Fix OS Partition)

Make Sure Window Sytstem Drive is Clean

Other Wise To recover Data Not the applications

Try to recover Windowrootdrive\windowdirectory\system32\config (for the recovery and repiar of system hives to include drivers, components, Security, SAM, Software, and default - I have not tried it But I think REG tool can used for this function)

Try to Recover Components  Location Of the WINsxs

Try to recover Applicatins Install and Programdata locations

Use Partition shrink to recover disk space (might needed for installing new OS)

                                        3)   Driver Recovery

Delete WindowsRootDrive\Windows Driectory\Sytem32\Codeingetrity\Bootcat.cache for basic driver integrity

It does not solve the problem where specialized harware Service drive manages the driver (like  Audio, video, mouse, keyboard etc)

BSOD (dump map can be processed by seprate program)

I will experimenting with it using REG application to delete the service

                                        4)   Application recovery can be achieved by fist recovering to safe boot

                Sytem With BackUp:

System With Backup - Challange is recovery of the Partions

Challanges are created By Type of back system with following challanges

What kind of recovery - bare bone, snapshots, system state, and applications (in microsoft AD, Replication and Registry Are applications)

                               What OS

Recovery Metods VSS or simple type (VSS has the shadow copies, and may have encryption)

Recovery Type - Actual Location (This option is dangerous - It will create mass storage structure at time of backup and may destroy your data)

                                                         - Recovery target (identify which volume(partition) you want to use  for file or application or Volume Recovery)

After the Recovery  You follow the System without backup procedures
