Hi everyone,

first of all forgive me please for my broken kitchen English, I am a French speaking guy, but since I can not get any serious help in my mother language, well here I am...

This Toshiba A-505 was made for Windows 7 Home Premium.

I have accepted the upgrade proposed by Microsoft, to upgrade for free from that Windows 7 Home Premium to Windows 10.

During the first +/- 10 weeks, everything was ok.

After a certain Windows Update, this laptop - and another one as well ( a Packard Bell EasyNote TK-85, also originally working under Windows 7 and upgraded to Windows 10 ) were equally infected, but with different symptoms.

The Packard Bell EasyNote TK-85 is now in the hands of a friend of mine, looking for a way to fix some of these problems : hard disk unreadable, unwrittable, unformattable, laptop non-stop switching on/of all alone by itself...

The symptoms of the Toshiba A-505 I am still able to use in order to write this post :

first freezing at any moment for a few seconds, then switching off by itself.

When I say -at any moment- more often when I ask the laptop the slightest effort, like installing a software, using a software, opening 2 or 3 Internet windows simultaneousely ...

I already have made some test that people advice me to do, to check the hard disk health, the memory, etc : no problem.

The same people repeat the same thing : a virus via Windows Update is IMPOSSIBLE.

It is maybe impossible, but ... it happened, and not only once, but twice. Maybe more ...

The guy who have posted a YouTube video tutorial to explain how to recover the Toshiba A-505 as coming out the factory, said exactely the same thing : he was forced to do so, because of a virus he get after a Windows Update, after ugrading his Toshiba A-505 from Win7 to Win10.

I first used the internal Toshiba recovery system to erase the hard disk ( writting on existing data ) :

23 hours long, WITHOUT any freezing nor crashing ... Strange ... before re-installing the original Windows 7 Home Premium.

In vain : the symptoms are still there, I suppose they were hidden in the recovery system ...

Now I am using a Windows 10 Professional version 1511, same symptoms are still there...

I have read the first exchanges of this issue : http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/487822/possible-infection-causes-computer-to-freezecrash/

So, to avoid a waste of time, here are the attached files with the results of the required reports.

I thank you in advance for your time and kind attention.

Let's try looking at these 2 sets of reports:

1)  Please run this report collecting tool (even though you may not be reporting BSOD's) so we can provide a complete analysis:  http://omgdebugging.com/bsod-inspector/
When done a Notepad document will open with the name of the file and it's location.
By default it'll be a .zip file located on your Desktop
Simply upload the .zip file with your next post and we'll move on from there.
If it doesn't work for you, then please try this:  http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/576314/blue-screen-of-death-bsod-posting-instructions-windows-10-81-8-7-vista/

2)  Please do the following:
- open Event Viewer (run eventvwr.msc from the "Run" dialog)
- expand the Custom Views category (left click on the > next to the words "Custom Views")
- right click on the "Administrative Events" heading
- select "Save all Events in Custom View as..."
- save the file as Admin.evtx
- zip up the file (right click on it, select "Send to", select "Compressed (zipped) folder")
- upload it with your next post (if it's too big, then upload it to a free file-hosting service and post a link here).

FYI - If we're looking for Event ID 41 errors (unexplained shutdowns), there's more info on that here:  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2028504

While waiting for a reply, please monitor your temps with this free utility:  http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html

But, as this is likely to take a while - you may want to try a clean install of W10

If so, follow the instructions under the "Need to create a USB, DVD or ISO?" section on this page:  https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10/

Hi usasma, thanks for your help.

It came unfortunately as no surprise that the BSOD crashed, both in normal and safe mode...

BSOD ran well until -MSINFO32 REPORT-, stuttering 3 or 4 times on that same line :

MSINFO32 REPORT - DO NOT CLOSE APP ( something like that )

and when running that one

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/576314/blue-screen-of-death-bsod-posting-instructions-windows-10-81-8-7-vista/

WAITING FOR SYSTEMINFO

... before freezing a few seconds long then switching off by itself, as usual ...

For example when I try to run Spybot Search & Destroy, the same misery is happening...

Just impossible to make it run until the end...

When I just type these words in Google : infection, virus, cleaning tool ... well I realize it maybe sounds crazy but it looks like the installed virus knows what I am planning to do, right away freezing then shuting down... This will not happen while I am typing : Football or Magnolia ...

To answer your proposal of a clean install of Win10, this is the way I installed a first version of Windows 10, without any improvement on the described symptoms ...

BTW and for example, when I am just trying to install another original software like a Photoshop Elements 14 ( coming from the Adobe site ) the install process is freezing then crashing the computer during the transition of the assets.zip, but not always at the same moment... I mean not always during the same transition ...

Anyway I will read the other links you kindly provided me...

Thanks again (Y)

From what you describe, this is not likely to be a virus problem.

But, here's what I suggest that you do:

1)  Post over in the Am I Infected forum:  http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/f/103/am-i-infected-what-do-i-do/
Please read the pinned topics at the top of the forum for instructions on how to post there.
They are the experts and will be able to tell you if it's a virus or not.

Once they're done with you, post back here and we'll continue on.

2)  As you have time, please run these free hardware diagnostics:  http://www.carrona.org/hwdiag.html.

We'll need the results before we proceed in this forum.

You can feel free to skip the anti-malware scans as you'll already have posted in the Am I Infected forum.

Also, the first 3 tests are bootable, so you won't have to go into Windows to run them.
