Hello! Thank you in advance for your assistance. My PC's have been running smoothly, but today I cannot update Windows. The process stalls while checking for updates.

Both computers are loaded with Win 7, Service Pack 1, 64 bit OS. I turned off automatic updates about 6 weeks ago. I didn't want MS to switch them to Win 10 unexpectedly and without my permission. Three weeks ago, I had no trouble checking for and installing updates. Now both computers have the same problem, stalling while checking for updates.

Thank you, again, Gardener2

It is getting to a point where every month requires a new update to be manually installed. See this post. This month's required update is KB3161664.

In the future every month look at this site for the next update to manually download.

Edit: Install the update. It will ask to reboot. After reboot shutdown then reboot again. Check for updates.

Thank you, John. I installed KB3161664 and checked again for updates. I can now check for updates without it stalling and both PC's are up to date. I'm saving that link to check for future updates. Thanks again!
