Running xp  sp3 on an older Compaq Persario 6000 computer

I have a WD  USB 2.0 500 gig external hard - that I have used for more than a year

It has always worked fine on this computer.

I did a clean install on my computer of xp and  loaded SVC packs up to and including 3

I loaded the install program from WD For this device

In my computer- when I go into manage -   - it will show the device - but it shows it as empty and it will not read it if I click on it.

I have plugged this usb device into a windows 7 computer and it finds it and reads the files just fine.

What am I missing on my XP computer to get to read this again.

You should not have to install any program for the WD external in order for it to be detected. In Disk Management is a letter assigned to the drive? If not give it a letter.

Are there any yellow exclamation marks in Device Manager?

Can you read files from any other USB device such as a flash drive?

Can you post a screenshot of your Disk Management Window?
