Here's some ideas:

FYI, I would stay away from CNET, as they've been known to bundle other "software" with their downloads. I no longer trust them.

thanks, i just found out windows movie maker is already on my computer :scratchhead:

i will give that a try

EDIT.....

i tried to copy an MP4 video to the windows movie maker and got this error.......

456754.mp4 can not be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart windows movie maker and then try to import the file again

I am a fan of VirtualDub.  I usually frameserve through TMPGEnc.  A search of FCCHandler should provide downloads of available codecs to enable VDub to load a multitude of video streams.

Not into VirtualDub this site may be of some help:

http://www.videohelp.com/

As to your codec question:

http://www.free-codecs.com/

You should be able to find the appropiate codecs there.

You may also want to try:

The K-Lite codec pack is alleged to contain the majority of codecs needed to play videos.  I say alleged because I have never tried it.

I just had a codec nightmare on getting an A_DTS audio track to play.  Found the AC3 codec pack that will allow it to be recognized by Windows Media Player and someother programs.  VirtualDub still shows no Audio track.

Ended up using Cool Edit Pro to copy the audio from the video, save it as a WAV file then set VirtualDub to play the separate audio track.

The moral of the story:  Sometimes video editing can really be a pain in the ... well you know.

Hi, what platform your computer is running? I believe movie maker is enough to join video clips into one. I found something useful for you. http://www.instructables.com/id/Join-Videos-Files-With-Windows-Movie-Maker
