system: win 10

laptop: asus gl551jw

Network adapter: intel dual brand ac7260

i think the problem happened after a windows update in December.

my wifi is slow and drops intermittently. It sometimes drops after 5 second of connecting to the network, the wifi icon says "secured, no internet", with a yellow triangle sign.

the internet is fine when i use the laptop in the living room in the older version of the driver (which is 16.5.3.6), but when i use it in my room, which is far from the router, the problem occurs. And this happens to my current laptop only. The problem doesn't happen to my phone and my other laptops.

i have tried updating the newest version of the driver and rolling back to older versions of the driver (i think the older versions work better than the newer versions)

i have tried changing the DNS server address to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.

i have turned off "Allow this device to turn off to save power"

i have tried sfc /scannow,

i have tired the following changes:

- 802.11n channel Width for 2.4Ghz conenctions to 20mhz ONLY (Defualt is Auto)
- Prefered Band 2.4Ghz (Defualt is Auto)
- Roaming Agressiveness 1. Lowest (Defualt is 3. Medium)   (some people have recommended me to change it to Highest)
- Wireless mode 802.11b/g (Defualt is 802.11a/b/g)

i have tried

  • ipconfig /release
  • ipconfig /all
  • ipconfig /flushdns
  • ipconfig /renew
  • netsh int ip set dns
  • netsh winsock reset

I have tried installing the reliable multicast protocol in the WIFI property andI have done some changes in the WIFI property.(see attachment)

i recently reflashed my BIOS (i reinstalled the same bios version for fixing a problem where the laptop shuts down in sleep mode),but the wifi problem was occurred after a window update in December. should i update my bios to the newest version?

please help, thank you very much

What router do you have and how is it configured? Wifi band? Security?

Have you tried updating drivers?

Last, try disabling  LLDP driver

Wireless Radio :  Enabled
802.11 Mode :  11bgn
Channel Width :  20/40 MHz
Channel :  1
WISH :  Inactive
Wi-Fi Protected Setup :  Enabled/Configured
SSID List :
Network Name (SSID) Guest MAC Address Security Mode

cecilia No 00:18:E7:F1:33:30 wpa_psk

this is what i found on  192.168.0.1.

my router is d-link

i am sorry that i don't understand what you mean by how is it configured

i guess the wifi band is 2.4ghz becasue it does not support 802.11a?

i tried updating the drivers but it doesn't help.

security mode: wpa_psk

Try changing the WPA mode to WPA2 only and the cipher to AES. Also, do you have any Wifi B or G devices on your network? If not, try changing the 802.11 Mode to N only. For specifics, what model Dlink router do you have?

hi,

my router is dir655

do you mean changing wpa mode in wireless property in the network and sharing center or changing it on the 192.168.0.1 website?

so after i changed the wpa to wpa2in wireless property, it asked me to connect again. And after i did, i went back to check, and it said WPA mode not wpa2. Is it because my router doesn't support wpa2?

this is what i found

Both router and wireless NIC support WPA2. If you changed the settings on the router to WPA2 and it did not "stick" then something is wrong with the router.

i also found that my internet is not very stable. As you can see in the picture, when i first opened a youtube video, the internet was fine. There were no gaps. But after a few seconds, it started to go up and down, connect and disconnect, and it is very weird.

Does the router not apply other changes made to it? If not, may be time for a new router. DIR-655 is EOL.

I don't know about every Icon. What is the status of the connection? Try deleting the connection profile and recreating.  If that doesn't work try connecting with another device.
