I have a Lenovo Edge 2-1580 (serial # R90HUGFX). It was updating the BIOS this morning and I had to shut it down in the middle of the process. Now the laptop only has a black screen and doesn't boot. I realized there is nothing really I can do not but buy parts. If I buy a new MB for it will it fix the problem is there something else I can do?

I would try to reset the BIOS settings, following the directions provided in Lenovo user guide/manual.
