I know what Google, is, I know it has other services it offers, but I have no idea what eactly this is and if I even need it to run (right now I have it blocked).

Every time I'm on Youtube I get a note (I have cookies set up that way) that apis.google.com wants to put a cookie on here.  Does it do something important?  I did a quick search and really didn't find a good answer.
