Hi everybody,

All is in the title !

This happened after having done a disk (C:) defragmentation from outside of it in order to defrag all the unmovable/locked files by the OS and other program in use (AV, etc...).

The reboot message arrives just after POST and before NTLDR is executed. All that remains to do is press any key and we loop around to the same point.

I know everything is ok after NTLDR because when I boot with Hiren's Boot CD (HBCD) and choose the option to boot with XP NTLDR, it goes fine all the way into the OS.

I red here that LILO can mess a MBR or else so it can prevent normal booting operation. Also, I realized having done a clone of C: with 'EaseUs ToDo Backup free' after my defrag and, in order to perform the task, ToDo reboots and execute it outside of the OS to be cloned; and I remember that in order to do this, another line was added in boot.ini in order to boot in a... LINUX environment ! thus, the link I made with the LILO problem in the above mentionned link.

I did perform a fixmbr as per instructions of the above mentionned link, to no avail !

Here is my boot record structure :

Windows Information:             (build 2600)

Hi

I forgot to do fixboot c: in XP Recuperating console. After having done it, here is the result :

MBRCheck, version 1.2.3
© 2010, AD

Command-line:
Windows Version:                Windows XP Professional
Windows Information:             (build 2600)
Logical Drives Mask:            0x008001f7

\\.\B: -->  error 1
\\.\C: --> \\.\PhysicalDrive0 at offset 0x00000000`00007e00  (NTFS)
\\.\E: --> \\.\PhysicalDrive0 at offset 0x00000022`78479000  (NTFS)
\\.\F: --> \\.\PhysicalDrive0 at offset 0x00000012`c0300000  (NTFS)
\\.\G: --> \\.\PhysicalDrive0 at offset 0x0000001a`f8668000  (NTFS)
\\.\X: --> \\.\PhysicalDrive-1 at offset 0x00000000`00000000  (NTFS)

      Size  Device Name          MBR Status
  --------------------------------------------
    232 GB  \\.\PhysicalDrive0   Windows XP MBR code detected
            SHA1: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx [blanked by me]

But no improvement to the problem !

Situation resolved : C: had lost it's "Active" partition attribute. After reset the attribute, all went ok !
