Hello Folks,

This is a used Gateway FX6850 computer. Originally a windows 7 machine but had been upgraded to Win10 before I got it. I reset the PC when I got it (dumping EVERYTHING) and it crashed (I think...?) at 75% through the reset. It restarted automatically and it began to install windows 10 again I have had a BSOD nearly every time I have used the computer since. This was originally marketed as a gaming comp, but I haven't gamed on it and don't intend to. I'm just an internet user but my business is online sales. I have followed the instruction for posting here and here are the attached files and I hope you can help.

I am having trouble understanding this portion of the instruction for posting here: SeaTools for DOS - Hard Drive (HDD) Diagnostics.

I don't know what this means:  In order to use the newest SeaTools for DOS, download the bootable CD image version to your desktop.

What or where is this "image" ???

Finally, I am a complete novice to terminology, or any kind of comp diagnostics. I have been never done anything with a comp except surf and load pictures. Keep it dumb for me please. Thank you!!!

Don't worry.  Just be patient and we'll work our way through this.

Just work your way through our posts, line-by-line.

If you run into problems, cite that line and we'll work through it.

FYI - here's my suggestions for diagnostics:  http://www.carrona.org/hwdiag.html

The hard drive diagnostics page is here:  http://www.carrona.org/hddiag.html

I'm headed out to dinner right now.

I'll either be back later on tonight or in the morning (UTC-5, east coast of the US)

I'll run the reports that you uploaded and we'll see what we can do from there.

My browser caused a flood of traffic, sio my IP address was banned. Hope to fix it soon. Will get back to posting as soon as Im able.

Try this tutorial for running Seatools for DOS:  http://www.megaleecher.net/Seagate_SeaTools_For_DOS_Bootable_USB_Maker_Kit#axzz4A847cxex

This procedure is for a USB flash drive - not for a DVD.

Once you get to the step (step 6) where the diagnostic tools are, run the Long Test and then let us know the results.

On to the BSOD analysis.........

Your UEFI/BIOS (version P01-A3) dates from 2011.  Please check at the manufacturer's website to see if there are any UEFI/BIOS updates available for your system.  If you are able to install the update through Windows (without booting from an external drive), then go ahead and update it.  WARNING - if the computer might shut down during this procedure, please don't do it, as this may physically damage the computer and prevent it from booting.

Only 4 Windows Update hotfixes installed.  Most build 10586 (TH2/1511) systems have more than this.  Please visit Windows Update and get ALL available Windows Updates.
The actual number is not important.  Rather it's important that you checked manually, installed any available updates, and didn't experience any errors when checking or updating.

You have a Realtek RTL8192CU Wireless LAN 802.11n USB 2.0 Network Adapter:

I do not recommend using wireless USB network devices.
These wireless USB devices have many issues with Win7 and later systems - using older drivers with them is almost certain to cause a BSOD.
Should you want to keep using these devices, be sure to have the latest W7/8/8.1/10 drivers - DO NOT use older drivers!!!
An installable wireless PCI/PCIe card that's plugged into your motherboard is much more robust, reliable, and powerful.

Out of 8 memory dumps there were 6 different BSOD  (aka STOP or BugCheck) error codes.  The differing error codes are usually symptomatic of a lower level problem within the system. They are usually caused by one of these things (the list is not in any sort of order):
- borked (broken) hardware (several different procedures used to isolate the problem device)
- BIOS issues (check for updates at the motherboard manufacturer's website)
- overclocking/overheating - You'll know if you're overclocking or not. If uncertain we can suggest things to check.
- dirt/dust/hair/fur/crud inside the case.  Blow out the case/vents with canned air (DO NOT use an air compressor or vacuum as they can cause damage to the system)
- missing Windows Updates
- compatibility issues (3rd party hardware/drivers), older systems, or even pirated systems
- low-level driver problems
- or even malware (scanned for when we ask for hardware diagnostics from http://www.carrona.org/initdiag.html or http://www.carrona.org/hwdiag.html ).

Please get a head start on the hardware diagnostics - they are located here:  http://www.carrona.org/hwdiag.html
There's a lot of stuff related to the hard drive in the memory dumps - so I'd start with that test first.

Let us know the results of the diagnostics and we'll move on from there.

Thank you for helping out!!!

Hard drive test done=pass

Chipset driver updated after Intel scan. I have been unable to locate any specific BIOS update but I assume the scan would have included this??? Not sure...

I haven't been able to get the Memtest to work. I downloaded, burned, but it doesn't boot on restart. Am I missing something here?

I'm going to get a new wireless PCI/PCIe today and I am really thinking about the video card---Nvidia GeForce GT440 getting replaced too.

I'd suggest posting over in the Networking forums for some expert advice:    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/f/21/networking/

Have you finished the rest of the diagnostics? If so, what were the results?

If you can't get MemTest86+ to work, try the plain MemTest86 program instead.

I've been using this machine about 3 hours total today without a BSOD. Pretty much a record since I got it. I still need to replace the network card.

I checked at the Gateway site for BIOS updates - and there are none.

Be aware that the BIOS was released in 2011 - W8 came out in 2012 and W10 in 2015

If the problems continue (despite our best efforts to fix them), then you have to wonder about compatibility.

Unfortunately, the "test" for compatibility is to reset the system to the original OS and see if it has the same problems there.

Not something we'd suggest until after we've tried everything else.

Beyond that, I'd suggest looking for update for everything on the system.  Not only from Gateway, but from the device developers (such as Intel, etc), along with any added devices and/or software.

Good luck!
