Hello, I'm new to this Mac thing. Today on start up, there was an icon with a pic. of Earth on it and it was there for a minute or so, then it switched to a folder with a question mark on it. Usually, it was start up normally but I don't know what I did wrong for that problem to occur. Help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance =]

'cause that are updates. f.e. for MacOSx itself, but also for Mac Software s.a. ipod-software

You can by clicking on the blue apple icon in the left upper corner of your screen, then choose "software-update".

I know this is an old topic but that was a Network icon. Your Mac was looking for a startup disk. You will need to go to Apple menu > System Preferences > Startup Disk and choose, usually Mac OS X, and Restart.
