Some applications are slow to open

Hi bleepingcomputer people! I registered because I'm in need of your help (and I hope this is the right section).

 

From a few days, there's a little problem happening in my computer. First off, I'm using WINDOWS 7, and my pc specs (copy pasting what I see in the properties): 10 GB of RAM, intel Core i3 2100 CPU 3,10 GHz, 64 bit

 

It has always been good, I mostly use the pc for music reproduction and production. But weirdly, some day some applications started to open really slowly.

An example: when I open Foobar for the first time after I boot up my PC, it is REALLY slow and the window appears 15-25 seconds later and then I can use the program regularly. Also, after I opened it the first time and close it, and then open it again, it works as normal (very fast start). The same happens with other small applications; I have for example Advanced Renamer (that I use for renaming songs) or other really small .exes

 

I didn't notice this happening with folders, internet or other things. I highly doubt it's a virus, I have TinyWall running and MSE, and I rarely get viruses because I hardly surf the web or download stuff from P2P or torrent services.

 

What could be the issue? It's not a "serious" issue, but it's certainly super annoying  :smash:

 

Hope you have an idea of why PC started this behaviouring, and hope you can help me

Hey! Inital boots can be slow, but you may have a damaged HDD. This generally means slowly your PC will crawl to a point where it takes 10 minutes to open a video. If you feel like it is slowing down more and more, definietly copy everything over immediately.

It's a little too early to jump to the conclusion that the problem is with the hdd.  This could be any of a number of things that are causing this.  A large number of programs or processes running at startup.  Scans set to run when the computer is first started.  Corrupt Windows files, etc.

 

Just so you are aware, P2P downloads is one of the quickest ways I know to become infected.  Downloading these is a craps shoot which will eventually catch you.  You have no way to know if the files you are downloading are infected or not.  The person providing these files may not even be aware that they are infected.

 

Please download and install Speccy to provide us with information about your computer.  Clicking on this link will automatically initiate the download. 
 
When Speccy opens you will see a screen similar to the one below.

Click on File which is outlined in red in the screen above, and then click on Publish Snapshot.
 
The following screen will appear, click on Yes.

The following screen will appear, click on Copy to Clipboard.

In your next post right click inside the Reply to Topic box, then click on Paste.  This will load a link to the Speccy log.
 
 

Please download MiniToolBox to your desktop.
 
Right-click on MiniToolBox.exe and select Run as Administrator.
 
You will see an image like the one below.

Click on the following checkboxes only:
 
• List last 10 Event Viewer log
• List Installed Programs
• List Users, Partitions and Memory size.
• List Minidump Files
 
Click on Go to start the scan.  Once it is finished highlight the text, then copy it and paste it in your topic.

I don't think it's the HDD, I bought it not a long ago...

And this is the copy-paste from the toolbox (most of the errors related to FL64 can be ignored).
I also suspect TinyWall is blocking other programs and the errors are from this conflict, but I don't see how that could affect the load time of my mp3 player or my other applications

It appears that Microsoft Antimalware is having problems.  I would suggest that you disable this service and install Malwarebytes.  This is a better antimalware tool.  I use the free version and run scans a couple of times a month, but the paid version is a active program and is quite effective.

 

Open the Start Menu and type services.msc, this will appear above the search box, right click on it and select Run as administrator.

 

When Services opens scroll down to Microsoft Antimalware Service, right click on it and select Properties.  Under Startup type select Disable, Click on Apply, then OK.

 

 

Why do you believe the FL64.exe hang errors can be ignored?

 

 

Please run System File Checker
 
The sfc /scannow command scans all protected system files and replaces corrupted and incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions.
 
Click on the Start orb rsz_1rsz_1rsz_start_orb_zpshjewtibd.png and then type cmd in the Search programs and files box.
 
In the pane above the search box Programs will appear with cmd below it, right click on cmd and select Run as administrator.
 
If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, enter the password, or click Allow.
 
This will open the Elevated Command Prompt, it will look similar to the image below.

Copy and paste sfc /scannow in the command prompt, then press Enter to start the scan.  
 
If the scan finds no integrity  problems the scan will stop.  Type in exit, then press Enter to stop the scan.
 
When the scan is finished and if intergrity issues are found (corrupt files that couldn't be repaired), please do the following.
 
Click on the Start orb rsz_1rsz_1rsz_start_orb_zpshjewtibd.png then type cmd in the Search box. 
 
CMD will appear above the search box, right click on it and select Run as administrator.
 
When the Elevated Command Prompt opens copy and paste the command below, then press Enter.
 
findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >"%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt"
 
This will place a new icon on the desktop titled sfcdetails.  Double click on this icon to open 
the CBS log, copy and paste the log in your topic.

Scan is fine, nothing happened.
The FL errors can be ignored because sometimes I overload it and it crashes (heavy projects and my CPU isn't the best)

The options, even in admin mode, are all greyed out in services.msc
Microsoft Antimalware is related to Microsoft Security Essentials? If that's the case, I can uninistall it and get another real time antivirus (Malwarebytes as you suggested, maybe)?

The Microsoft Antimalware is a Service which is install with Windows 7.  This is why I had suggested that you disable that service.

 

Did you right click on Services when it appeared above the search box and select Run as administrator?

 

Are you experiencing any other permission issues?

 

There is a possibility that your admin. account is corrupt.  Open the User Account and create a new admin. account and see if you can access the Microsoft Antimalware Service and disable it under Startup type.
