I've had the blue screen crash for some months.  I factory reset my notebook (u36sd asus), but it didn't fix it, I still got a crash!

Here are the details

Problem signature:

  Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
  OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.768.3
  Locale ID: 1033

Additional information about the problem:
  BCCode: fe
  BCP1: 0000000000000008
  BCP2: 0000000000000006
  BCP3: 0000000000000005
  BCP4: FFFFFA8004128B20
  OS Version: 6_1_7601
  Service Pack: 1_0
  Product: 768_1

Files that help describe the problem:
  C:\Windows\Minidump\052316-36005-01.dmp
  C:\Users\yura\AppData\Local\Temp\WER-87298-0.sysdata.xml

I found a similar one here http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/60813-63-bsod-minidump-help, and it seems to do something with my USB.  I ran the powercfg.exe /energy but have no idea how to determine what the issue is from the energy report

It wouldn't let me copy the preview text or upload the html file to here.  I just did a print screen of the power errors attached jpeg.

Could someone please help me figure out how to fix this?

Thanks.

Please run this report collecting tool so that we can provide a complete analysis:  http://omgdebugging.com/bsod-inspector/
When done a Notepad document will open with the name of the file and it's location. (By default it'll be a .zip file located on your Desktop)
Simply upload the .zip file with your next post and we'll move on from there.

If it doesn't work for you, then please try this:  http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/576314/blue-screen-of-death-bsod-posting-instructions-windows-10-81-8-7-vista/

While waiting for a reply, please run these free hardware diagnostics:  http://www.carrona.org/hwdiag.html

Let us know the results please.

Attached is the zip from the bsod inspector.

Also did the following earlier today, before running the above test.

Thinking that the issue could be USB related, i installed the USB driver from the asus website (though it is around 5 years old), as well as the driver from the only USB device that i thought could be causing it, Nuforce Dac2.

Only other thing I have connected is the usb wireless that connects to my logitech gaming mouse, and the usb mouse is connected to the other port for charging.  But this crash was occurring before i started using both of these.

Only 255 Windows Update hotfixes installed.  Most systems with SP1 have 300-400 or more.  Please visit Windows Update and get ALL available updates (it may take several trips to get them all).
The actual number is not important.  Rather it's important that you checked manually, installed any available updates, and didn't experience any errors when checking or updating.

There is an unknown USB device on your system. ( Unknown Device    USB\VID_0000&PID_0000\6&A42B35D&0&2    This device is working properly.)
Please remove ALL USB devices and check to see if the entry in the Components...Problem Devices section of the MSINFO32 report remains.

You may also have to remove the software associated with these devices.

This will determine if the device is built into the system or not - then we'll have to figure out what it is.

The lone memory dump blames your USB - so it's critical to identify this USB device.

Should the BSOD's continue, please run Driver Verifier according to these instructions:  http://www.carrona.org/verifier.html

Attached is the new file.

I installed the rest of the updates, only win 10 is an option now.

Note that while installing it failed to install driver "fresco logic usb root hub", i got an error msg. It isn't an option for an available update right now.  Caused my logitech gaming mouse to not work. and now it doesn't work right off the bat once computer restart.  But if I turn the device on and off, it starts working again.

Unplugged all usb devices when I ran that BSOD inspector this time.  The problem devices section is empty now.

Edit:  After i went to bed, I think I just left the computer sitting there, like I usually do.  The USB device I thought could be the problem wasn't plugged in (my mouse still was).

I hit the power button and:

Read our privacy statement online:

After a few minutes reading online, it's an issue of blue screen coming out of sleep mode. :(

Usually my computer doesn't go into sleep, just stays active.  Maybe it's because I have the external sound card plugged in all the time.

I also want to mention that my computer started crashing a lot only after I came back from 4 month of traveling.  I might have left it on, leaving in a hurry.  When I came back, the computer wasn't really cooperating with me, I think it took a few times trying to restart it to get any sound working at all. I don't think i wasn't using external sound card at that particular point in time.  But i did previously use it for a while, maybe stop 6-7 month before.

Edit 2:  it crashed with the usb error with the external sound card unplugged.

OK, it seems that we're looking at a USB error that's related to either your USB 3 controller (the fresco logic usb root hub) or to the Logitech gaming mouse.

Also, please uninstall the Asus Charger program.  It's driver (aicharger.sys) has been known to cause BSOD's in some Windows Systems

Please go to this page: https://www.asus.com/support/Download/3/289/0/2/9g7Gx4mX49JhUUJ7/30/

On that page, check the USB section for a USB3 driver - have you installed that?  It contains a patch for the USB3 device - so this may help you out.

Try other USB devices in that port to see if they have problems functioning also (try it when the Logitech mouse isn't connected at boot).

My concern here is that there's a problem with the USB3 controller on the motherboard.
The testing of other devices (and the patch) may give us a clue as to which it is.

If it's the controller, then your choices would be to either disable it - or get a new motherboard (but we're not at that point yet).

I was not able to locate asus charger.  So I googled

 http://www.uninstallsupport.com/uninstallsoftware/uninstall-ASUS-Ai-Charger-1.00.09-completely.html#win7

and it's not on my list, I attached the list of all my asus programs on the uninstall list.  Maybe i'm missing something.

I suspect that the issue has more to do with the usb controller than the gaming mouse.

Right now, it seems like the gaming mouse works as normal when the computer starts up.

The most I had crash was months ago, when I wasn't using this mouse.  I was using a regular logitech mouse with a normal unifying usb wireless adapter.

Right now i'm playing WC3, but when I was playing Dota 2 (steam), the computer would crash sometimes at the start of every game. Thats why I stopped playing it.  Wc3 being a very old game is less demanding perhaps.  But it does crash mostly with it on.  I think over half the time it crashes while I'm in chat lobby, not in game.

Another problem I was having with crashes was while playing video using VLC player.  One time it crashed 3 times in a row, not long after video started playing.  I started using Media Player Classic, and am no longer having this issue when video.

With dota 2 and VLC are the most often when it crashed, and at that time I wasn't using this gaming mouse.  Also back then, i did not save the error codes, so it is technically possible that it was a different issue......

1)  Search your system for AICharger.sys (it's most often found in the C:\Windows\System32\drivers directory.

2)  Download a fresh copy of the Asus Charger from the Asus support site for your model.

3)  Install it, reboot, then uninstall it.

4)  Check to ensure that the AICharger.sys driver has been removed.

If not removed, post back and we'll rip the darned thing out by the roots! :0)

I forgot to post a follow up on this....

Somehow, i must have clicked for my pc to update from win 7 to win 10.  I wasn't too happy about that at first, but it was free..

And after the win 10 update, i haven't got any blue screen crashes at all.  Must have been something with my hardware running win 7.  Looks like it's been over a year, so all is well :)

Thanks for all your help, usasma!
