Dell Latitude, Windows 7

Before you ask:

I have the latest drivers installed.

This problem happens with any of three different mice I use (a Compaq, an IBM and a Logitech), so it is most likely not related to a particular mouse.

I have rebooted.

I have unplugged and replugged the mouse.

I have redownloaded the latest drivers, from different sites even, to eliminate the possibility that it is a corrupt driver.

I have tried the default driver as loaded by the O/S.

I have the problem when in safe mode.

I have a handful of virus and spyware checkers, as suggested by a posting I read on this site.  My computer should be virus free.

I have found a huge variety of possible solutions on various tech sites and forums, none of which have worked.

The symptoms:

The pointer will freeze for approx 1 second or so.

When I regain control, I hear the Windows "device connected beep".

The problem seems to begin when I make a fast movement with the mouse.

The problem will be non-existent for long stretches of time.

Once the problem begins, it happens a number of times before becoming non-existent again.

The problem occurs in multiple applications and is not limited to a single application.

The problem occurs even if I'm only running a single application.

Of note:

All 3 mice in which this freezing problem occurs are all USB mice.

Perform a clean boot in Windows you may troubleshoot or determine what conflict is causing the problem by performing a clean boot. A clean boot is performed to start Windows by using a minimal set of drivers, startup programs and services.

Always with the same USB port? Or different USB ports, same issue? (Just wondering if it's a physical issue)

You said you installed mouse driver and use Windows integrated mouse drivers with same issue result have you installed latest device drivers. You should install chipset and USB controller drivers if you already have install the latest drivers then install previous drivers as the latest driver could be buggy.

As I understand USB ports (and I have tried my mice in all four on-board ports), they provide an avenue for data as well as power.  With that said, I noticed my mouse's laser going off, which I guess is a symptom--not a cause--of my problem.  Recently, as this intermittent mouse freezing has increased (and in some cases lasts around 10 seconds instead of 1 second), I have paid closer attention to the laser.  Occasionally, upon freezing, when I lift the mouse the laser comes back on.  Then upon setting it back on the mouse pad, it often goes off again immediately.

Not sure if this is a clue or not, especially as I just realized that one of the three mice I've used is actually a trackball mouse (no laser).

NOTE: The problem is inconsistent.  At times, it will not happen at all for up to an hour or so.  When the problem returns, it seems to first happen when I make a large, fast move with the mouse.  Does the mouse's inches per second setting have anything to do with it? And if so, why would it happen with three different mice unless they all had inferior inch per second capabilities?

It's not the mouse/s causing the problem I think, but rather something with your system.

There are user ID and system verification errors. Is your install Windows install cracked or not authenticated?

It is not authenticated.  I'm not sure why, as it installed and authenticated just fine on my previous computer.  When I upgraded to this Dell laptop, using the same install CD, it wouldn't.
