Yes the title says Phoenix Technologi

I bought an old emachine t3104 desktop from thrift town in hopes of reviving it with linux but ive seen to run into a few issues

1. It never boots from USB

2. it never bots from DVD

3. it never boots from HDD

4. it never boots from PXE (Ethernet LAN)

5. boot menu (f10) gives me blank screen

6. when i leave it be (not choosing f10 or f2) it gets stuck at Phoenix Technologi (Yes technologi) with a line blinking under the i

7.  when i go into bios (f2) it works but i dont know what to do in there

The bios is the only thing that seems to work

Ive checked some other forums and it says it may be BIOS/CPU related but i dont know how to flash it if it wont boot from anything and i dont have a core 2 duo.

I cant provide what the BIOS version is because i dont know where to find it

Everything seems to have come with the machine (all OEM hardware) the only thing is not OEM is the video card

CPU: AMD Sempron sda3100aio3ba (3100+)

RAM: 512 DDR1

MOBO: K8M-800M 103534

Jebus h Christ... i removed the video card and it worked... i hope this helps someone

Things I would try in order.

In BIOS menu, reset to factory defaults (it might be called something like optimal settings) and save and exit.

If that doesn't work, remove the small coin battery from the corner of the MB.  Note which way + faces ("up").  Wait at least 20 seconds.  Replace the battery and see if the PC boots.  Actually if you have a multimeter now is a good time to test the voltage (<3V replace; very inexpensive).  I suppose a bad battery could cause your symptoms.

Unplug everything from the PC except the PSU, MB, CPU, its HSF, the monitor and keyboard.  See if it boots.  With no memory it should beep its head off (if it has a speaker and it works).  If it seems to boot (no system disk), add one stick of RAM to the slot nearest the CPU.  See if it boots.  No, try the other stick.  No, try the other slot.  No.

Replace the PSU with a known working PSU if one is available.  Unfortunately it is a 20-pin connection and there are capacitors in the way where the extra pins of a more modern 24-pin header would overhang.  Many 24-pins are actually break apart 20+4-pin headers.

Fortunately eMachines usually used off the shelf components and in this case it appears they did so with the FIC MB.

http://www.fic.com.tw/product/motherboard/amd/k8m-800m.aspx - unfortunately I do not see a BIOS download at either eMachines (Acer) or FIC support sites.  You can ask their support.  eMachines should help send you one, FIC will likely as well as long as you do not indicate it came with a system--that is indicate you bought the board from the thrift shop.  You are right though, it can't flash if you can't boot.

VIA and Realtek have the latest drivers ever made for the chips on your board available fr download from their sites.

If you can figure out what is wrong with it and fix it, then consider upgrading the CPU and RAM.  And a 7,200RPM HDD (IDE) if you can find one (maybe a refurb if cheap enough and warrantied) depending upon what is in that box.
