I'm getting jerky scroling in IE, typing lags behind a keystroke or two, and general slowness. Windows don't maximisa and minimise instantly. My USB mouse also hesitates but a PS/2 mouse is unaffected. Not fatal but annoying.
I've done all the preliminary scans. TIA.

Hello Mark Dunn and welcome to the BC HijackThis forum. I see no signs of viruses or malware in the log. It is clean.

There are a couple of housekeeping items to clean out so let's do that while you are here.

Start HijackThis and click the Scan button to perform a scan. Look for the following items and click in the checkbox in front of each item to select it:O2 - BHO: (no name) - {A5366673-E8CA-11D3-9CD9-0090271D075B} - (no file)
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Rename] "C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\Setup.exe" /Rename

Now close ALL open windows except HijackThis and click the Fix Checked button to finish the repair and then reboot the machine.

As for the hesitation, if it only occurs when usb devices are plugged in then it would point to an issue with either the usb devices (bad device or cable possibly) or ports (configuration or driver issue). I suggest posting a topic in the Win98 forum and let them analyze the devices/port configuration. Let them know that you have been to this forum and that no malware was found.

Cheers.

The HKCU item has gone away on its own. Thanks for your help.

You are very welcome Mark Dunn. Since this does not appear to be a malware issue I will close this topic. If you have any new malware issues in the future please start a new topic.

Cheers.
