Hi there,

I'm hoping someone can help me out. I have a Dell Vostro 430 desktop (about 6 years old) running Windows 7 Pro x64. I have recently reformatted it so it's a clean install.

I seem to be unable to power on the computer if I have my WD My Passport 1TB external hard drive plugged into either the front panel USB ports or back panel. When trying to power on the computer only the LED from the WD My Passport flickers rapidly (more than once per second), it's not until I unplug the WD that my computer will power on.

I have tried different USB cables/ports, made sure that my internal hard drive is to boot first in BIOS, updated my BIOS and have still ended up with nothing. I have also unchecked the 'allow computer to turn off this device' under Power Management in the Device Manager for all things USB related and that hasn't worked.

I know it's not a problem with my WD My Passport as I have 2 others and they also have this problem. I was able to successfully turn on my laptop with all 3 WD My Passport attached so I'm thinking I must have a power management problem with the desktop.

What could possibly be the issue?

Thank you in advance to anyone that can offer some guidance!
