One day when I logged in my account and everything was missing. my desktop icons, firefox bookmarks history etc. When I go through the C:/ drive and find my user

account folder, everything is there but it doesnt appear like it should.

I did find this link,

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/947215

which seems to help, but when i try to change the s 1 5 folder to remove the .bak I cannot, it seems the exact same s 1 5 folder (without the .bak) is the TEMP folder for some reason and the one with .bak is mine, 'Michael'.

Is there another way to fix this?

tried system restore, didnt work.

any ideas?

Hi,

Did you create another user account with Administrator privileges and use that account to execute the steps on the article?

i havent made any new accounts in years. i tried doing what the article said but i couldnt change the .bak. it looks like the TEMP folder is associated with the MICHAEL folder, does that make sense?

confusing.

You can only apply the instructions on the article if you create another user account because you can't change the registry for the account that you are using.

How to create a new user account in Windows 7 and Windows Vista

Make sure you choose Administrator instead of Standard User.

So perhaps I should make a new account as Admin and just copy the files over to that account, and afterwards delete the old account? Would that be accurate?

If so, I will do that. But is quite odd why the computer would start doing weird crap like that.

Thanks

Its a better solution in my opinion. When windows detects some problem with the user profile it starts loading a temp profile instead of the original.

The profile corruption can have many sources, corrupted registry, corrupted files, wrong permissions, etc.
