Hey, everyone. I just bought this new XPS 13 9035 and I'm at a loss for all of the issues I've run into since turning it on.

Out of the box I was getting BSODs (kernel_security_check_failure) when trying to connect to my work network which prompts a web page to sign in. I didn't encounter this when connecting to Starbucks or my home networks. Unrelated to the BSOD, the computer would freeze at times and the screen would go black. Only thing that would fix it was a hard reset.

After I managed to update Windows and a hand full of drivers, I'm still encountering these issues, but the black screen/freezing seems to have gotten more common. It seems to happen most when I'm browsing the web or playing a video (I use Chrome), but at other times I'll just be using MS Word and it'll crash.

-Ran the Driver Verifier and the computer couldn't start. I've included all the minidumps I had, but there didn't seem to be one generated by the Driver Verifier error.

-Sfc /scannow reveals errors that Windows can't fix.

-Memory Diagnostics Tool reveals no errors.

-Don't know if it's all related, but my administrator account lost Start button/Cortana/Action Center functionality a couple hours ago. Some tinkering in the PowerShell window couldn't fix it, but I created a new account with administrator permissions and the Start menu, ect., works fine in the new account only.

Sorry if this is an overload. I thought I'd reach out and see if I could get some insight before returning the damn thing. I'm currently a teacher in China, so the return/repair process takes ages by the time I can get someone to help translate, ect.

Many thanks,

John

If this is a brand new computer - consider returning it for a replacement.
We can spend a long time troubleshooting this, and you may run out of time to return it.

Your UEFI/BIOS (version 1.3.3) dates from 2016.  Please check at the manufacturer's website to see if there are any UEFI/BIOS updates available for your system.  This is just in case there has been a recent update.

Only 9 Windows Update hotfixes installed.  Most build 10240 (original release) systems have more than this.  Please visit Windows Update and get ALL available Windows Updates.

The WER section of MSINFO32 report shows crashes with your Broadcom WiFi driver and your Intel graphics driver.

The memory dumps also show the crashes of the Broadcom WiFi driver (we don't expect dump files for the Intel graphics type of crashes).

Please:

- download the latest W10 compatible version from the Dell website.

- uninstall the current versions from the system using Control Panel...Programs and Features.  This is to remove any corruption that may be present.

- if not able to uninstall there, uninstall the device(s) through Device Manager (right click...uninstall)

- install the freshly downloaded drivers

- monitor for further BSOD's.

I'll try your troubleshooting options before returning. I have some time left, so I want to see if I can fix these issues, especially if I run into them on the replacement as well.

I'll post an update when I've tried all your suggestions.

Thanks!

OK, so I'm currently creating new copies of my error logs and such. I've updated all of my drivers, made sure the BIOS is up to date, downloaded all available Windows Updates, and followed your instructions for the re-installation of the Broadcom Wifi driver and the Intel graphics driver. Still encountering the BSOD when trying to connect to work network, and still experiencing the black screen freeze & crash as I was before. More often, though, I'm encountering screen flicker and a black screen that can be resolved by pressing (Ctrl + Win Key + B Key). Noticing this seems to happen when I'm multitasking and have the charger in, and usually precedes the black screen crash.

Don't know if it's related, but I went to try a fresh install of Win10 and the wizard couldn't find my C: drive to install to. Upon trying to reset the computer, I was informed that there are missing partitions.

Will post updated logs soon, and am about to run the Memtest RAM test.

Ok, so here are the latest logs. For the life of me, I can't find a driver for the Intel High Definition DSP (HD Audio Bus Driver). I've disabled it for the time being. Haven't been able to run the Memtest yet, but that's next on the list.

Repeated errors with the PC Reviver software and the NSSM software (Non-Sucking Service Manager).

Please uninstall them.

Drivers not installed for Intel HiDef audio.  Please install them.

Daemon Tools (and Alcohol % software) are known to cause BSOD's on some Windows systems (mostly due to the sptd.sys driver, although I have seen both dtsoftbus01.sys and dtscsibus.sys blamed on several occasions).

Please un-install the program, then use the following free tool to ensure that the troublesome sptd.sys driver is removed from your system (pick the 32 or 64 bit system depending on your system's configuration):  New link (15 Aug 2012):  http://www.duplexsecure.com/downloads (pick the appropriate version for your system and select "Un-install" when you run it).
Alternate link:  http://www.disc-tools.com/download/sptd
Manual procedure here:  http://daemonpro-help.com/en/problems_and_solutions/registry_and_sptd_problems.html

NOTE:  The uninstaller may not find the SPTD.sys driver.  Don't worry about it, just let us know in your post.
NOTE2:  The latest version has an SPTD2.sys driver - the uninstaller is on the same page as the SPTD.sys driver - just download the version for W10!

Many, many errors due to btwdins.exe in the WER section of the MSINFO32 report.

Please uninstall your Broadcom Bluetooth software, then download and install a fresh, W10 compatible copy from the Dell support site for your system.

The memory dumps point to both the Daemon tools sptd2.sys driver and the Broadcom WiFi driver.

Please follow the instructions for removing Daemon Tools above.

As for the wifi driver, please:

- download a fresh copy of the latest, W10 compatible Broadcom wifi drivers from the Dell support site for your system

- uninstall the Broadcom wifi drivers using Control Panel...Programs and Features

If unable to uninstall them there, then uninstall them by locating the device (under Network Adapters in Device Manager), right clicking on it, and selecting "uninstall"  Remove the software if it asks you about that.

- then install the freshly downloaded drivers

- monitor for further BSOD's

Try the Realtek audio drivers - I have a hunch that they (the Intel DSP) might be implemented in there.

Know it's been awhile, but just wanted to update for people in the future. Was finally able to bring the computer to a Dell service center here in China and had the machine sent away to have several internal components replaced. I was told the motherboard was replaced, among other things, and since then I haven't had any issues with the black screen crashing. The machine seems to be running cooler, too, and there've been no issues when multitasking, so I guess something physical had malfunctioned.

No chance to test for BSOD thus far.

Thanks for the help up till now
