My dell L702X laptop display sporadically turns black.

It can go black from one second to several minutes and then come back.

It can happen once, several times or start “blinking”.

While it’s black I can still type and when I can view the display again, I can see my  input.

I also noticed, only while it’s black, I can see on the left side of the screen a thin colorful line that looks like it’s running down (like a scan movement).

The OS is windows 10. I reinstalled display drivers (downloaded newest drivers) for both display adapters: Intel HD graphics 3000 and Nvidia GeForce GT 550M.

Ran some hardware tests on startup (F12)

It happened also in safe mode and while loading windows (even before it  gets to the screen where you enter user name and password).

When I let it sit for about an hour in bios setup, I haven’t seen it happen  (but I did have times where it went for an hour in windows with no black screen).

Any ideas how to fix this?

Thank you!

The Dell XPS 17 L702X does not have drivers for Windows 10.

Dell is not testing or developing Windows 10 drivers for this product. If you choose to upgrade, some features, applications, and connected devices may not work as expected.
