Yes my computer and internet are running very slow. So slow I read a magazine between page loads. No kidding! The cpu and disk are running 90-100%. There is no one process running high in disk or cpu, except occasionally one of my 25 or so Chrome processes get a little high. (I can't seem to get rid of those after I close the tabs-how do I do that or is that part of whats wrong?) I am up to 65 processes but yesterday I had 27. I had more different windows open then!

My task manager looks funny in that there are processes and programs on there 3-4 times. Like Norton security and back up. Norton Web Browser-and these are all 32 bit and my computer is a 64 bit. And I don't even use a Norton Browser! Chrome is also running at 32 bits even though I downloaded the 64 bit not too long ago. It was working fine and now I can't find it. If you go to these Norton file locations they are all the same. The same program/.exe file.

My internet disconnects about every 3rd page loaded. I have to turn it off and back on. I replaced my router a few months ago. It worked great for about a week and a half. Then I started using an external wireless adapter and disabled my internal. That worked for about a week. So now I'm back to the internal one- Realtek Wireless LAN 802.11n-PCI-E-NIC and I'm disconnecting. Still.

It says in the rules to give lots of detailed information. I hope this is enough and not too much! Any help?

Reset Google Chrome. If Norton's safe search or similar reinstalls itself after reset, then disable it. Is Norton up to date?

You can restore your browser settings in Chrome at any time. You might need to do this if apps or extensions you installed changed your settings without your knowledge. Your saved bookmarks and passwords won't be cleared or changed.

  1. Open Chrome.
  2. In the top right, click the icon you see: Menu  or More .
  3. Click Settings.
  4. At the bottom, click Show advanced settings.
  5. Under the section "Reset settings,” click Reset settings.
  6. In the box that appears, click Reset.

Use CCleaner to remove Temporary files, program caches, cookies, logs, etc. Use the Default settings. No need to use the

Registry Cleaning Tool...risky. Pay close attention while installing and UNcheck offers of toolbars....especially Google.

After install, open CCleaner and run by clicking on the Run Cleaner button in the bottom right corner.

CCleaner - PC Optimization and Cleaning - Free Download

Post the three lists mentioned below using CCleaner.

Open CCleaner and click on Tools. Choose Startups. On that page you will see a list of Windows Startups and at the top tabs for each browser and Scheduled Tasks.

At the bottom right of that page you will see a button when clicked will allow you to Copy and Paste the list of Windows Startups and Scheduled Tasks into your next

post. Please do that.

Open CCleaner and click on Tools. Choose Uninstall. On that page you will see a list of programs installed on your computer and at the bottom right of that page you

will see a button when clicked will allow you to Copy and Paste that list in your next post. Please do that.

I hope I did that all right-the button that should have let me copy and paste was only to save to text file. So I did that and copy/pasted from there. If you can see that windows was reinstalled in november, the hard drive was completely replaced. This computer should be working, it's like brand new!

Wow I just noticed that you can't tell whats what in my log files.

You can figure it out I'm sure but why risk the frustration, right? So the start ups are in this order and then the 2 others

Windows, IE, Chrome. Then Scheduled Tasks and finally Context Menu.

Disable this Task: Yes Task Optimize Start Menu Cache Files-S-1-5-21-872700872-2795169639-2363844560-1001

Use CCleaner by clicking on the item and then choosing Disable on the right.

I have some more comments on what you posted but first I think it best to run the programs below.

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here

Double-click mbam-setup-2.X.X.XXXX.exe to install the application (X's are the current version number).

  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • Once MBAM opens, when it says Your databases are out of date, click the Fix Now button.
  • Click the Settings tab at the top, and then in the left column, select Detections and Protections, and if not already checked place a checkmark in the selection box for Scan for rootkits.
  • Click the Scan tab at the top of the program window, select Threat Scan and click the Scan Now button.
  • If you receive a message that updates are available, click the Update Now button (the update will be downloaded, installed, and the scan will start).
  • When MBAM is finished scanning it will display a screen that displays any malware that it has detected.
  • Click the Remove Selected button.
  • MBAM will now delete all of the files and registry keys and add them to the programs quarantine. When removing the files, MBAM may require a reboot in order to remove some of them. If it displays a message stating that it needs to reboot, please allow it to do so.
  • While still on the Scan tab, click the link for View detailed log, and in the window that opens click the Export button, select Text file (*.txt), and save the log to your Desktop.
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can also be viewed by clicking the History tab and then selecting Application Logs.

POST THE LOG FOR  REVIEW.

Download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your desktop.

  • Close all open programs and internet browsers.
  • Double click on adwcleaner.exe to run the tool.
  • Click on Scan button.
  • When the scan has finished click on Clean button.
  • Your computer will be rebooted automatically. A text file will open after the restart.
  • Please post the contents of that logfile with your next reply.
  • You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[S1].txt as well.
  • download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
  • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
  • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista, 7, or 8; instead of double-clicking, right-mouse click JRT.exe and select "Run as Administrator".
  • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
  • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
  • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
  • Post the contents of JRT.txt into your next message

I see that the log from AdWare Cleaner says my os is Win 8 Pro.

On my System screen it says it is 8.1
The icon on the page says Win 8. Is that because 8 was factory installed? How can there be such differences? I just worry about this stuff being a symptom of infection. Is is unusual for the inconsistency?

If after doing the above, rebooting and Chrome is still slow....suggest you reset it.

You can restore your browser settings in Chrome at any time. You might need to do this if apps or extensions you installed changed your settings without your knowledge. Your saved bookmarks and passwords won't be cleared or changed.

  1. Open Chrome.
  2. In the top right, click the icon you see: Menu  or More
  3. Click Settings.
  4. At the bottom, click Show advanced settings.
  5. Under the section "Reset settings,” click Reset settings.
  6. In the box that appears, click Reset.
