I noticed last night that Windows Update had 55 updates to download.  Upon further inspection, it said updates were last downloaded sometime in November.

I have run the Windows Update Troubleshooting; it resolved some items, but not others (forgot to take a screenshot).  Now Windows Update says I have never even checked for updates.

Following the advice on other threads, I selected only 2 of the updates, then let it run overnight.  I woke up this morning to ZERO percent complete.  Ugh.

I'm able to view pages on Internet Explorer and Chrome without issue, and MalwareBytes was able to update just fine.  What next?

Download the Windows Update Readiness Tool and run it.

Why wouldn't you want to download and install the updates?

A great deal of these are for security issues and are important.

I meant that I don't want to upgrade my aging Dell to Windows 10.  I fear it would finish it off.

After running it, I got a message saying, "The Update is not Applicable to Your Computer."

I just noticed that your link was for 64-bit.  I'm downloading the 32-bit version now.

Finally got this post from another thread to wake up Windows Update.

Have you seen this :

"

Hello

To resolve this issue : first install KB3145739.
Next you should restart and then you can check for updates in manual mode.
It takes between 5 or 10 minutes.

It worked for me on Windows 7 x86 and x64.

More informations on this site http://sm.krelay.de/wu/ !

Ignore all the turgid comments.

It's the last comment ~13:00  there.

It certainly seemsto have stopped the complaints.
