Hello,

I'm working on a friends window 7 machine which has been failing to update for apparently a significant amount of time.

Details of the failed updates are shown below:-

Error details: Code 643

Installation status: Failed
Error details: Code 643

Security Update for Microsoft Silverlight (KB3126036)
Error details: Code 670

Internet Explorer 11 for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems

Addtionally, Automatic Updates service is missing from the Services snap-in and the system readiness tool fails to install ("not correct for your system" or similar).

I have reset windows updates and cleaned up and reinstalled .net

regsvr32 wuaueng.dll returns a call to DllRegisterServer failure with 0x80070005 error and the SubInAcl tool from windows has no effect

CheckSUR shows the following unavailable repair files:

Does this Windows 7 have SP1 installed?

Please download and run the Windows Update Troubleshooter.

Post the results in your topic.

I've been having the same issue.  I have SP1, and I ran the troubleshooter, but it hasn't finished in over 30 minutes.  How long should I allow?

You should post your own topic.  Posting your problem in another member's topic will only cause confusion if both issues are addressed.
