OK To Eject Media Message

When I click on the eject media icon (taskbar) I get a message bubble which tells me it is ok to eject media. On my SIL's new rig, I click on the eject icon and it immediately and automatically ejects the media. Is there a setting to control this? Thanks.

Are you referring to disconnecting USB port connected device before you remove the USB device if yes then i have never come a cross USB device ejecting as if it's CD/DVD media.

Yes, a USB connected external harddrive.
