This Compaq Presario CQ57 laptop I have (it's about 4 years old) makes the start-up noises and the blue light is on, but it won't turn off.. it's not dead, so I don't know what is going on. Does anyone here know?

Do you see anything on the screen at all?

If not, can you use a computer monitor and attach it using the plug on the side of the laptop?

Do you see anything there?

Most likely a hardware problem.

I'd suspect the motherboard, but would suggest checking the the hardware experts here:    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/f/7/internal-hardware/
