I've just bought a Seagate 8 TB Sata HDD  for £190,for backups as an alternative to making a 3 X 4 TB NAS RAID 5 running FreeNAS which would cost me £650 to make..

On trying to format this drive Win 8.1 couldn't do it. I dual boot with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS which did like a cinch.

Can anyone give an answer to this anomaly.

May because I was trying to use the the MBR partition scheme and not GPT..I usually use Ubuntu for HDD management for these tasks.
