This is a simple question that I cannot find a simple answer for. Can I upgrade my Windows 8.0 machine to Windows 10? If I Google this I get all kinds of answers pertaining to Windows 8.1. I don't have windows 8.1, I have Windows 8.0.

According to the notes on this Microsoft page, you have to upgrade to Windows 8.1 first.  Scroll down to almost the bottom of the page where it says 1 Windows Offer Details...

3 Must be running the latest version of Windows 8 (Windows 8.1 Update) to receive the free upgrade to Windows 10 via Windows Update.

Just in case you didn't know, Windows Update will get you from 8.0 to 8.1.  It'll probably take a couple of hours to do it, but it will do it.  Once you get that done, THEN you can avail yourself of the free upgrade to 10.

 Good luck.

Make regular full system backups or you'll be sorry sooner or later.
