Hi

I am hoping some of you know if there is a program I can install on my child's Win7 PC that will automatically send me internet history reports.

I've tried parental software but find it restricts my child's activity too much. I would rather leave the PC unrestricted but monitor their usage.

My router is apparently not capable of the syslog function which would have been ideal.

Any ideas?

Are you wanting to monitor how long they're on for or what they visit?

I only really want to know which websites they are visiting.

My router is apparently not capable of the syslog function which would have been ideal.

Then buy one that does.  The money you are going to spend on software is going to add up over time and will eventually exceed what you will pay for a router.  I would buy a router that I can flash a third party firmware on, e.g. DD-WRT, Tomato, OpenWRT, etc, because it would give me the greatest flexibility for setting up monitoring to suit me.

I can't change the router. Our internet is paid for by a business and the maintenance contract does not allow any changing of the router.

Are you allowed to change the DNS settings? If so, I'd use OpenDNS if you don't need any specifics (i.e. searches).

Then you probably need some sort of parental control software.  A simple search like this should bring up several choices.  It would be up to you to research each solution to see which one suits you best.

I never make the same mistake twice....I always make it 5 or 6 times just to be sure!

Thank you all so much. OpenDNS looks like a really great solution. Thank you.
