Hello,

I am using Windows 7 on my laptop that I use to run my business on and for the past maybe 2 weeks now I have noticed some odd things with it that leads me here. It has been running much hotter than normal and I notice this when I open up my Google Chrome browser to go online. I have also noticed that in my task manager that there are duplicate processes running that did not do this before.

Also I have the paid version of Malwarebytes that I have had for some time now but all of a sudden it is consuming a very large amount of CPU and Memory where it has always just been a program that did not really use up hardly any resources.

I have also noticed that the Malwarebytes program looks much different than the way it looks in my laptop that runs windows 10 which was running on windows 8 until it recently upgraded to 10. Oddly enough that laptop seems to be running just fine......except it will not work with my version of Quickbooks that I need to use for my business.

I have cleaned out all dust with a can of air, ran a full scan of malwarebytes which finds nothing, run full scan with Bitdefender 2016 and it finds nothing. I ran the Adwcleaner and that picked up a few things that I know I did not install. (I always make sure to uncheck any and all boxes so it I do not download any unwanted items when updating Adobe for instance)

In my task manager I will notice that it shows I have sometimes almost 20 instances of Chrome open when I will only have 1 tab and or window of chrome open. This is also when the CPU & Memory will jump to 100% use and the fan goes crazy and the laptop gets really hot.

Of course it has to happen to my only computer that I use for my business which has got me frantic and in desperate need of a professional like you folks.

Thank you for your time.

p22002970.gif Please download Rkill (courtesy of BleepingComputer.com) to your desktop.
There are 2 different versions. If one of them won't run then download and try to run the other one.
You only need to get one of these to run, not all of them. You may get warnings from your antivirus about this tool, ignore them or shutdown your antivirus.

rKill.exe: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/rkill/dl/10/
iExplore.exe (renamed rKill.exe): http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/rkill/dl/11/

  • Double-click on the Rkill desktop icon to run the tool.
  • If using Windows Vista, 7 or 8 right-click on it and choose Run As Administrator.

  • If not, delete the file, then download and use the one provided in Link 2.
  • Do not reboot until instructed.
  • If the tool does not run from any of the links provided, please let me know.

If normal mode still doesn't work, run the tool from safe mode.

When the scan is done Notepad will open with rKill log.
Post it in your next reply.

NOTE. rKill.txt log will also be present on your desktop.

NOTE Do NOT wrap your logs in "quote" or "code" brackets.
Do NOT use spoilers.
Do NOT edit your reply to post additional logs. Create new reply. I'll not get any email notifications about edits so I won't know you posted something new.

I ran the MBAR and it did not find anything. Of the two files that you requested for me to post I only have the   "system-log.txt"   I do not see the file

"mbar-log-{date} (xx-xx-xx).txt" listed anywhere at all.I do not know if this is because it found nothing to clean up or if because there might be something off about my entire Malwarebytes program that I had expressed in my very first post. Please advise me why I do not have the 2nd log you request if you can.

After this post I will then load the Rkill program and list the results in my next post.

Hello,

I went to turn off my Bitdefender to run the JRT program and it is telling me that access is denied and that I do not have the authority to do that.... I am running as the admin...like I normally do. Bitdefender first asked me for a password then told me i have the wrong password. I have any and all passwords written down in a notebook and I do not recall ever putting a password setting to be able take actions with this program. I double checked my other laptop that also has bitdefender on it and that one is NOT password protected...which is how I have them set up.

So my question is what should I do next?  Now I am wondering if the culprit is not my AV program.

Thank you.

Try to uninstall/reinstall BD.

Hello,

I have uninstalled and then reinstalled my Bitdefender however somehow it knew it was me when i reinstalled it and it put all the settings back to the way they were. I have sent a email in to bitdefender a day ago but have not yet heard back from them. I have never really found them to be very helpful in the past but I guess I will have to see what happens.
