Hi all. I just inherited an Android cellphone from my son.

It is an Onyx, Android version 5.0, model number AAP453G-1015

It has a very nasty trojan on it, which I can't get rid of, with anything, including Malwarebytes, and various 'stubborn trojan remover apps' downloaded from Google Play Store.

Nothing works.

A Malwarebytes scan says 'your device has issues', then when I select 'fix now' it shows the problem, being ..

Android/Trojan.Spy.Agent.el

/system/app/OP_GoogleSearch/OP_GoogleSearch.apk

Then when I confirm I want to delete the item, the only thing that comes up is

'do you want to uninstall this app?'

and hitting cancel results in going back to the previous step and hitting yes results in

'Uninstall 'Unsuccessful'

Sure, I have googled this, and the consensus of opinion seems to be;

'You can't get rid of it - throw the phone away'

Huh ? Well what responsibility does Google have in this ? Is it going to refund the cost of the device ? And what of Malwarebytes that didn't prevent it and can't fix it ???

Any clues / help / comment please ???

JA

Why not uninstall the app and run it again ?

Again, which app do you think I should remove ?

What from the above says to you it is a specific app that I can remove ?

It seems to me to be a systems thing.

And I should add, I've done a factory re-set three times. But it keeps happening.

I missed the part where you said "yes" to the uninstall and it didn't work.

OK.

So can anyone tell me how I get rid of this ?

Just done another re-set to factory conditions and it's still there.
