Hello, I recently relocated to St Thomas.  I did setup port forwarding multiple time in California without issues. However I am unsuccessful here. I am trying to open port 8000 to remotely view surveillance camera.

Logged in the Belkin router, went to port forwarding, enter the information and saved it.  Rebooted the router. Then check whatismyip.com.  Using my iphone, i type in that public address in the cam viewer app. Doesn't work. I downloaded a port checker app. It tells me that 8000 is closed. I called the service provider Innovative, they said they don't block any port. I tried again on a friend computer using a Linksys router, same issue.  Does anyone have any suggestions on what could be the problem?  Thank you in advance.  Andre

Did you try to ping your router on that port from an external location?

Hey andre747

It's difficult to say without taking a look at the router itself. The location wouldn't matter as you're opening the port on your internal network.

A perfect way to test if a port is open internally and externally is to use the telnet command.

Kind regards,

Darktune

Thank you Darktune and Agouti. I can telnet to port 80 but not 8000. So i guess that takes the ISP out of the question.  I attached a screenshot of my router setup. Thank you for the quick responses.

Sorry Agouti I am not sure how I would ping the router from another location. Do you mean to ping my public address?

Here is another interesting thing. The site Canyouseeme.org shows me a different public IP than whatismyip. This is killing me!

Edit: removed question asking for IP. OP please do not post your public facing IP here.
