Still trying to figure out why my system does not work right or the same way as most others do.

When I had windows and now linux mint also.  Many of the same problems and no real solutions found.

Many tried some are temporary but never stay.  Settings constantly being changed and not by me.

Just trying to get to the bottom of all of this.  Crying jag over now.

Thanks for looking.

Linux logs everything. Open your file manager and navigate to /var/log

syslog and Xorg logs should shed light on your issues.

Raw I found those logs you posted about.  Should I copy/post them here to be looked at by you or another helper ?

I defiantly have some driver issues, but then we already knew that lol

Go ahead and post them. Upload the file if you can. Would be easier to look at then a giant long post.

it looks to me like a driver issue.

unfortunately i don't run ati cards so hopefully Nick or DC can shed more light on those errors.

while we wait do this:

open a terminal window and type: sudo updatedb && locate xorg.conf

post the output here.

Did you type the right command? Yours seems to be missing the db

 sudo updatedb && locate xorg.conf

Are you having issues with your PC? You have a few threads going at the moment and with a bit of off topic stuff in them its hard to keep up, not your fault.

I don't have Radeon graphics, but this looks strange to me:

Display Server: X.Org 1.17.1 drivers: fbdev,ati (unloaded: vesa,radeon)

Can someone confirm that it's "normal" for both fbdev and ati to be loaded?

That does seem strange AI. I don't have an ATI card installed on anything either at the moment. The other strange thing is this...

[    26.117] (II) LoadModule: "fglrx"
[    26.118] (WW) Warning, couldn't open module fglrx
[    26.119] (II) UnloadModule: "fglrx"
[    26.119] (II) Unloading fglrx
[    26.119] (EE) Failed to load module "fglrx" (module does not exist, 0)
[    26.119] (II) LoadModule: "ati"

Looks like it tries to load fglrx fails, then tries to load ati.... Maybe there is multiple version of drivers installed causing conflicts.

I'm wondering if we should wipe all display drivers (fglrx, ati) whatever might be installed, let it go back to the default ones then re-install one of them. I would use the proprietary drivers from AMD's site. I always had issues with the fglrx ones if I am remembering correctly.

That could work.

From the other post. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/609144/may-have-messed-up-this-morning/?p=3966781

What was weird is they were ATI drivers and I have a Nvida grafics card.
