I have a problem on my network where the internet connection is intermittent.

The first visit on the page shows page cannot be displayed and you have to refresh it in order to show.

under chrome it says server DNS address could not be found.

It is resolving after I refresh the page several times.

I have attached my network diagram for you to understand more in details.

The IP address on diagram is not the actual IP configured on my network..

Basically I have two gateway

gateway 1 : for the Internet (

gateway 2 : for the corporate links, page, AD replication, etc. (

where these two gateway are connected to a core switch.

this core switch routes any requests to a particular gateway

route - any ip starts from 10 will point to corporate router or gateway2

route any ip will point to gateway 1 or access internet

client PC is configured as

Subnet :

IF I change the DNS to (LOCAL ISP DNS) internet works perfect however, if I ping any hostnames of my servers or client PC

I got which means there is a collision on IP.

DC that act as DNs server with IP and forwarders are configured with the local ISP and google ISP

Please see the details in diagram

Can you tell me where the problem is? consider the internet on firewall is working properly when directly connected.

Hey Jaidencayle

Intermittent internet connections are difficult to diagnose and it's best in first instance to back to basic diagnostics before jumping into router/firewall settings. The way I'd diagnose this to start would be to run pingforlife. Pingforlife allows you set up multiple ping tests and they will run until you stop them. The way I tend to do this is the following

  • Ping to the router - 10.0.155.x
  • Ping to the firewall - 10.0.155.x
  • Ping to another PC on the network - 10.0.155.x
  • Ping to another internal IP address (printer/managed switch) - 10.0.155.x
  • Ping to an internal host name - host name of a machine
  • Ping to an external IP - I usually use Google DNS -
  • Ping to an external host name - youtube.com

When the connection drops check these tests, if everything external drops you can safely assume everything internally is working including your equipment. If anything stops responding to the ping test (the firewall/router for example) then you know where to look.

Kind regards,
