HI,

It seems like a nice and useful site, found you 'all while googling for a solution for the following:

I have following files in my C:\Windows\ folder;

1. Twunk_16.exe
2. Twunk_32.exe
3. Twain.dll
4. Twain_32.dll

with a folder named;
C:\windows\twain_32\
in which there's a file called
wiatwain.ds

My comp i've noticed has gotten bit slow, to whihc I did a partition reformatting. Though soon after the reformatting it was fine,after a while it again seems to be slow....

From what I have gathered so far the above files could well be system files, but also could be some malware caused by a certain worm: BLACKMAL.C

antivirus or spyware does not identify the files as mailicious.

My question could the slowing down of the comp be due to above files..? how do I know whether the files are authentic system files or malware...?

Thanks
:thumbsup:

Anytime you come across a suspicious file your not sure about you can go to jotti.org or to virustotal.com.
Browse to the location of the suspicious file and submit [upload] it for scanning/analysis.
The results of the file analysis will tell you if the file is bad.

You can also check the File Database.

For info on legit twain and twunk files, see here.

twunk_32.exe

wiatwain.ds

If your computer seems to be slow, read Slow Computer Checklist. There are reasons for slowness besides malware - i.e. too many startup programs, to many programs open at one time, unnecessary services running, not enough RAM etc. Further, as your system gets older it becomes filled with more files/programs and has a natural tendency to slow down.
