Ransomeware power shutdown

Hi! I am using Vista 32,on a Dell machine same age. a few days ago while surfing,a dialog

box appeared from the top of the page,a voice said that my computer had all kinds of

issues wrong with it. Fearing 'Ransom malware' i immediately hit the power off button, after

shutdown ,disconnected internet at router and did an Avast and Malware anti malware

scan,"clean".Started pc again and was good.
If this was "malware" is this the right way?

Most likely not ransomware from the sound of it, but it never hurts to be cautious. You may have just stumbled upon a "tech support" scam website that didn't actually do anything yet, wanting you to call a number or start a chat.

Always make sure to backup your data either way - this could be a warning shot. I would recommend posting in the "Am I Infected?" forums to have someone help assess your situation.
