This has been happening today, randomly.

I assume it has to do with the GPU, but what? Is it overheating? Is it going bad? It's an ATI Radeon HD 7970, about 3 or 4 years old at most, it would really suck if that's the case.

How can I troubleshoot and be sure what's causing this issue? It seems to only be when I'm running a specific game in the background (Garry's Mod) although I've been running it forever. Maybe it's when I'm running any game, I don't know.

Forgot to add, when that happens, I can still hear sound for a bit.

The only thing to do is hold the power down and force my PC off.
