The college I go's Computer Lab has a eBay account in which they sell used PC's that are surplus or no longer used. I bought a Dell Optiplex 780 from them. Since I was in class today and the auction ended today just 30 minutes before class, I snagged the only bid of $40. Now all the computers in the computer lab are this model and run Windows 7. I was told that Windows 7 is native to this desktop. It came with Windows 7 Pro, but if you know me, I am all about personalization so I wiped the PC clean by deleting the partitions using GParted and installed w7 myself. It says it has all the drivers except 2. technically it needs 3. The system claims that the Video drivers are already installed, but I cannot achieved a higher resolution than 1280x1024 on a 1080p (1920x1080) monitor. The computers at the college running the same OS, same model desktop are displaying in 1080p. Mine is not however.

drivers needed:
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2E17&SUBSYS_04201028&REV_03
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2E14&SUBSYS_04201028&REV_03

Video Driver Hardware ID

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2E12&SUBSYS_04201028&REV_03

(says it is installed but no HD or widescreen)(computers at college are)

Well the video driver listed after the auto-detect by Dell only made things worse. Now I cannot go above 1024x768. :( Display looks worse than it already did. I don't understand how this can be an "HD" Driver

Yeah, the video driver on there only made the display worse.

I downloaded all the drivers listed and this one is still missing

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2E17&SUBSYS_04201028&REV_03

as well as a working video driver

Is Windows 32bit or 64bit? On the side of the case should be a sticker labeled as a Service Tag. What is the number on the tag?

considering that it is 3GHZ with 4GB of ram, upgradable to 8GB I believe, I put 64-bit on it.

Service tag shows:

443TNM1

Is that something like the model number?

It is a number provided by Dell to show what was originally installed on the computer. As you see here

Delete your graphics driver in Control Panel and install this one. It shows a later driver is available but your chipset isn't supported on the newer driver.

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2E17&SUBSYS_04201028&REV_03  is an intel management driver.

That fixed my resolution problem. thanks

I now have 1920x1080 & 1600x900 options. IOBit driver booster only got my display up to 1366x768 but your driver got both recommended resolutions for my monitor

I would recommend you do not use a driver install utility. They can cause more problems than they solve.

Did the driver for the intel AMT work?

well, I don't know. but my video is broken again. After I installed the Intel, I installed Quicktime and Quicktime broke the video or something. Quicktime told me that I needed to restart my computer, once my computer restarted, I am stuck in 1024x768 again :(

and every program I open results in the following error message

Entry Point Not Found

The procedure entry point ucrtbase.terminate could not be located in the dynamic link library api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll

sounds like some kind of graphics related error

Also AERO is disabled which was never a problem before

That error is in regards to a Visual C++ error. I am not sure what would have caused it though.

See if running the update here helps. You have Windows 7 SP1  correct?

It looks like I have all the drivers now. One last request

It is not an emergency, but can you help me find an official sound driver? I have the generic "High Definition Audio Device" and the Dell website doesn't list any drivers for sound under my service tag.

...and you are making at least one if not two OS partition images onto at least one if not two external hard-drives, correct?

I don't know what you mean? What does OS partition images have to do with a sound card driver?
