Okay. The Mirar toolbar installed itself on my computer and I cannot get it to go away. I've had it before and thought it was blocked but I don't know what happened. Well hope someone can help. Here is a HJT log.

Hello lostneedhelp and welcome to Bleeping Computer's security forum.
My name is David, I will be helping you with your log today.

It is a good idea to print off these instructions:
This will be useful as there is a possibility some of the instructions will need to be carried out where internet access is not available.
You may also like to save these instructions in word/notepad to the desktop where they can be easily found for the same reasons as above.
A print out of the instructions would be a good reference to make sure you don't yet lost.
Also, it is important that you complete the instructions in the right order, and also that you don't miss any steps out!
If you have any queries about the process or just general questions, just ask.

1) You are missing one important program on that computer - an antivirus!
This is somewhat suicidal in today's digital world.
You need to install an antivirus program as soon as you can and run a complete scan of the computer.
AVG and Avast are excellent, free antivirus programs..
Never install more than one antivirus on your system - several together can cause problems and decrease performance.

2) Run HijackThis.
On the first menu, click Open the Misc Tools Section
Click Open Uninstall Manager
Click Save List - Save it anywhere.
A notepad will pop-up after it's saved, please copy everything in that Notepad and paste it here.

3) Download Brute Force Uninstaller.
Unzip it to a folder of its own (c:\BFU).
Read here how to unzip/extract properly:
http://metallica.geekstogo.com/xpcompressedexplanation.html
Start the Brute Force Uninstaller by doubleclicking BFU.exe

Next to the 'scriptfile to execute'-window you'll see a little icon as shown in next picture: Posted Image
When you click that icon, a little window will open that says: 'Please enter the full URL to the sript you want to execute'
In the field, copy and paste next URL:

http://metallica.geekstogo.com/alcanshorty.bfu

Click Ok.
Then click execute in Brute Force Uninstaller.

Extra note:
If nothing happens after pressing the Execute button, this means that the script didn't download. In that case, download the script ( alcanshorty.bfu ) manually from above url ( rightclick on it and choose 'save as' and save it in your BFU-folder). Then start BFU.exe again and click the browse button next to the 'scriptfile to execute'-window
Browse to the script you downloaded and Click Ok and Execute in Brute Force Uninstaller.

Wait for the complete script execution box to popup and press OK.
Press exit to terminate the BFU program.

4) Download Combofix to your desktop.
Doubleclick combo.exe
Follow the prompts.
Don't click on the window while the fix is running, because that will cause your system to hang.
When finished, it should produce a log, combofix.txt.
Post this log in your next reply together with a new hijackthislog.
Also post the uninstaller list.

David

I did this much so far because the Brute Force uninstaller isn't working. I click the link and it is a bunch of symbols and stuff. Thought I would say something before I tried to do something else.

Right click on the link for the Brute Force uninstaller and "click save as".
That should start the download.

In the mean time, click on start, then control panel, and then double-click on add/remove programs. From within add/remove program uninstall the following if they exist by double-clicking on the following entries:

Desktop Uninstall

Viewpoint Manager (Remove Only)

Alrighty. I was able to download the Brute Force Uninstaller but when I go to execute the URL it makes it to 90% and the window just closes. I was going to try to download it manually but I wasn't sure on how to do that because I couldn't find anything to save except for the one link to unzip files. I have tried ComboFix but it will not give me a log and acts as if it hasn't really done anything. Here is a hijack this log.

Hello there,

let's try a nice, simple manual method for now.

Start HijackThis, close all open windows leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following if still present:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://searchbar.findthewebsiteyouneed.com
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://searchbar.findthewebsiteyouneed.com
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://searchbar.findthewebsiteyouneed.com
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Microsoft Windows Session Manager Subsystem] C:\WINDOWS\smss.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Microsoft Windows Logon Process] C:\WINDOWS\winlogon.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [IE Redir] C:\WINDOWS\ieredir.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [taskdir] C:\WINDOWS\System32\taskdir.exe
O16 - DPF: {745395C8-D0E1-4227-8586-624CA9A10A8D} (AxisMediaControl Class) - http://webcam.atomicmods.com//activex/AMC.cab
O23 - Service: Microsoft ASPI Manager (aspi113210) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\System32\aspi121258.exe (file missing)
O23 - Service: MSDN Driver (msdndr) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\System32\msdndr.pif

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.
Make sure your Internet Explorer is closed when you click Fix Checked!

Open notepad and copy and paste next in it:

sc delete aspi113210
sc stop msdndr
sc delete msdndr

Save this as fix.bat
Choose to save as all files.
This is how the batch must look afterwards: Posted Image
Doubleclick fix.bat and let the program run.

Download KillBox from the following link :
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/killbox.php
Unzip the folder to your desktop.

Start Killbox.exe
Select the "Delete on Reboot" option.
Click on the "All Files" button (!important!),which will then flash green.
Copy the complete text in bold below to the clipboard by highlighting the filepaths and pressing Control + C:

C:\WINDOWS\smss.exe
C:\WINDOWS\winlogon.exe
C:\WINDOWS\ieredir.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\taskdir.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\msdndr.pif

Open 'file' in the killboxmenu on top and choose Paste from clipboard
You must use the file File menu--pasting by right-clicking the mouse will only enter one file.
Then press the button that looks like a red circle with a white X in it.
Killbox will tell you that all listed files will be removed on next reboot and asks if you would like to Reboot now, click "yes".
Click OK at any Pending File Rename Operations prompt, let me know if there appear.
If you don't get that message, reboot manually.
Your computer should reboot now.

Download and save Blacklight to your desktop.
Double-click blbeta.exe then accept the agreement.
Click on scan then click next,
You'll see a list of all items found.
Do not choose for rename yet! I want to see the log first; legitimate items can also be present.
There is a log on your desktop with the name fsbl.xxxxxxx.log (the xxxxxxx stand for numbers)
Post the contents of the log in your next reply.
Also post a new Hijackthis log.

Great, that's shown a nasty hidden file that needs removing.

Open hijackthis, click 'config' (bottom right)
Choose the tab 'misc Tools' on top.
Choose 'delete a file on reboot'
In the field, copy and paste next:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\rpcc.exe

Click open.
Hijackthis will tell you that this file will be deleted on next reboot and if you want to reboot now.
When asked if you want to reboot now, say Yes.

Please download Ad-Aware SE Personal and install it.
If you already have Ad-Aware SE, please configure it as indicated below.
If you have a previous version of Ad-Aware, please uninstall your current version and install the newest version SE 1.06.

Run Ad-Aware, and click Check for updates now.
Select Configurations (click the Gear wheel at the top) as follows:
General Button > Safety & Settings > Check (Green) all three.
Tweak Button > Cleaning Engine > uncheck "Always try to unload modules before deletion".
Click Proceed.

To start the scan, Click > "Scan Now" at left.
Select "Search for low-risk threats".
Select "Perform full system scan".
Click "Next".

When the scan has completed, select Next.
In the Scanning Results window, select the "Critical Objects" tab.
Right-click on the screen and choose "Select all objects".
Click Next to remove the infections found, and click OK to the prompt.
Restart the computer.

Now please re-try Combofix and post its log.
If it still doesn't work please let me know.

Hey there, just a but of clearing up to do now.

1) Please open notepad and and copy and paste next bold in it:
(don't forget to copy and paste REGEDIT4)

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"rpcc"=-

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\system]

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Desktop\Components\0]

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Desktop\Components\1]

Save this as "fix.reg" Choose to save as *all files and place it on your desktop.
It should look like this: Posted Image
Doubleclick on it and when it asks you if you want to merge the contents to the registry, click yes/ok.

2) Please use windows to search for the following files and delete if present:

kyzesequ.html
howy.html

3) Run Blacklight again and post its log.

fix.reg isn't working. It says it can't find Regedit. The two files were not present. But I didn't want to run Black Light without running that fix.reg.

Hey there.

Please run Blacklight anyway for now. I want you to confirm a couple of things before we look at why the regedit didn't work. Firstly click on start, then click on run and type regedit. Now hit enter. Does a window come up or do you get an error?

I've attached the regedit below, already created, so see if the folllowing works:
[attachment=939:attachment]
Save it to your desktop.
It should look like this: Posted Image
Doubleclick on it and when it asks you if you want to merge the contents to the registry, click yes/ok.

Let me know how it goes...
Post the Blacklight log and a new Hijackthis log.

David

Open notepad and copy and paste next bold in it:

regedit /e look.txt "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\regfile\shell\open\command"
start notepad look.txt

Save this as look.bat , choose to save as *all files and place it on your desktop.
This is how the batch must look after you created it: Posted Image
Doubleclick look.bat and notepad will open with some txt in it. Copy and paste the content of it in your next reply.

Okay I did that and it did appear on my desktop like you said it would, but when I clicked it, there was a window that popped up. It said that look.txt files could not be found. Would you like to create the files?
